2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi: Yunlin's Agriculture and Green Energy Dual Capital Lantern
2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi - Agriculture and Green Energy Dual Capital Yunlin Theme Lantern
The 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival is being held in Chiayi, and the Yunlin County Government is also joining the celebration. From February 16 to March 11, in the International and Friendship Cities Lantern Area at the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum, a Yunlin-themed lantern is being set up with the concept of "Agriculture and Green Energy Dual Capital." It promises to be spectacular.
Magistrate Li Chin-yung said that this work was designed by a team led by Mr. Wang Yao-jui, a local lantern artist from Kouhu, Yunlin. Mr. Wang's team not only participates in the production of secondary lanterns for the Taiwan Lantern Festival every year; the 2017 Taiwan Lantern Festival secondary lantern in Yunlin, "Auspicious Lions Present Good Fortune," also came from Mr. Wang's team.
This lantern is themed "Yunlin's Agriculture and Green Energy." The design features solar panels that convert light into energy and wind power generation that borrows the power of the wind, just as Yunlin pursues environmental sustainability in practical action and responds to the central government's shift in energy policy. The scarecrow with open arms means that humans and nature have achieved harmony and balance. In addition, Yunlin is also a major county for agricultural tourism. The design features Yunlin's tourism mascot "Qi Meng Zi" welcoming everyone to travel in Yunlin and taste Yunlin's local food culture. A harvested rice granary symbolizes abundant produce, the six livestock of farming households symbolize prosperity, Yunlin's five-color carrots symbolize good luck, the nationally famous garlic and watermelon, and Yunlin's coastal fishery products such as mullet, shrimp, and crab show Yunlin's advanced aquaculture technology. As a whole, the lantern group shows Yunlin actively moving toward its "agriculture and green energy" dual capital.
