Hsinchu Forest Green Space Guardian Campaign Kicks Off: Mayor Lin Chih-chien: Protect the Environment

The Hsinchu City Environmental Protection Bureau held the kick-off ceremony for the "Hsinchu Forest Green Space Guardian Team Campaign" on the morning of yesterday (the 5th), inviting the various boroughs and corporate groups around Hsinchu Forest to form "Green Space Guardian Teams" and jointly take part in the Hsinchu Forest Green Space Guardian Team inspection and reporting activities, working together to protect the green space environment and provide the public with clean green spaces.

Mayor Lin Chih-chien pointed out that since taking office he has been committed to raising the city's green coverage rate, linking Hsinchu Green Park Way, the Cultural Green Corridor, the moat waterfront park, Long'en Canal, Sanmin Park and Central Park into the 4-kilometer-long "Hsinchu Forest." He thanked the nearby boroughs adjoining Hsinchu Forest, including Wenhua Borough, Shuitian Borough, Qinren Borough, Jinhua Borough, Datong Borough and Fuzhong Borough, as well as 2 enterprises, Hsinchu Agricultural Products Marketing Company and Far Eastern Big City Shopping Center, for jointly forming the Green Space Guardian Teams. At present there are about 190 team members contributing their time and effort to jointly protect the clean environment of Hsinchu Forest.

"Maintenance is more important than construction," said Jiang Sheng-ren, Director-General of the Environmental Protection Bureau. To protect the green spaces of Hsinchu Forest and achieve the goal of "real-time inspection, real-time cleanup" for dirty and messy environments, the guardian teams use a technological inspection model: when cigarette butts or small pieces of trash are found, they pick them up on the spot as much as possible; when they encounter larger piles of garbage or damaged facilities, they take photos with their mobile phones and upload them to the LINE groups of the various guardian teams to notify the relevant green space management units to carry out improvements, keeping the green space environment clean at all times.

The kick-off ceremony for the Green Space Guardian Team campaign was held on the morning of yesterday (the 5th) in a lively and energetic atmosphere. Ni Kuan-hsun, General Manager of Hsinchu Agricultural Products Marketing Company; Liao Mao-wei, Vice President of Far Eastern Big City Shopping Center; Hsieh Te-yi, Manager; and many borough chiefs and guardian team members joined the event.
