Taitung County Government Allocates Over 20 Million Yuan to Improve Facilities in Xinfeng Fishing Port Area

Xinfeng Fishing Port in Chenggong Township on the East Coast is the largest port in Taitung County and the one with the highest catch volume. To improve the port area environment and drive overall tourism development, and in response to the recent trend of operating fishing boats growing larger in tonnage, in addition to previously completed projects such as the construction of deep-water wharves, the Taitung County Government will allocate 22.7 million yuan to carry out whole-port dredging and fish market improvement projects, which are expected to be completed in August or September this year. County Magistrate Huang Chien-ting made a special trip on the 13th to inspect and receive a briefing on the projects. County Magistrate Huang Chien-ting expressed the hope that the fishermen's association and local community would work together to clean up abandoned fishing gear in the port area and improve the environment, creating a new vision for a tourism fish market. Local County Councilor Hsu Chin-jung and Fishermen's Association Chairman Li Lung-jung requested the county magistrate to add a catch auction operation platform and speed up the dredging work in the port area.

At 11 a.m. on the 13th, County Magistrate Huang Chien-ting, accompanied by Taitung County Agriculture Department Director Hsu Jui-kuei, Fisheries Section Chief Chen Wen-tai and other personnel, went to Xinfeng Fishing Port in Chenggong Township to inspect the port area and surrounding environment improvement projects. County Councilors Hsu Chin-jung, Lin Tung-man, Kao Mei-chu, Chenggong Township Mayor Huang Po-chang, Council Chairman Li Lung-jung, Vice Chairman Wang Tung-chi, Councilor Yang Chiu-chen, Fishermen's Association General Secretary Chen Chun-ming and several association directors and supervisors were present to show their concern and receive a briefing from Fisheries Section Chief Chen Wen-tai on the completed and newly planned improvement projects at Xinfeng Fishing Port.

County Councilor Hsu Chin-jung and Fishermen's Association Chairman Li Lung-jung requested the county magistrate to add a catch auction operation platform and speed up the dredging work in the port area. Councilor Hsu Chin-jung hoped the county government would assist with subsidies to build a stainless steel operation platform modeled on the one at Fugang Fishing Port, which would not only allow more fish products to be placed but also effectively isolate ground pollution sources.

County Magistrate Huang Chien-ting affirmed the fishermen's association's addition of stainless steel facilities to keep catches off the ground, and expressed the hope of moving toward the goal of creating a tourism fish market. As for the dredging schedule, efforts would be made to complete it in August.
