Bougainvillea is a very beautiful ornamental plant; its flowers are brightly colored and its flowering period is very long, and the flowers can also be used as medicine, with functions such as regulating qi and blood, leukorrhea, and menstruation.

If you want the whole bougainvillea plant to be covered in flowers, then you need to control these 2 points well during the flowering period; the flowers will bloom evenly and fill the pot. Try it quickly too!

Point 1: Water control before flowering

During normal care, maintaining appropriate moisture can make bougainvillea grow better and also helps flower bud differentiation and flower bud growth, but before flowering, you need to control its water. Before each watering, wait until the potting soil is dry and the branches and leaves show a soft, drooping appearance, and only then water. Continue this for half a month to 20 days, then resume normal care, and the bougainvillea will bloom evenly and especially abundantly.

Note: During the water control period for bougainvillea, do not fertilize, otherwise it will cause root burn, affect flowering, and reduce its ornamental value.

Point 2: Carry out dark treatment

Bougainvillea is a short-day flower; controlling light to about 10 hours per day is enough, and dark treatment is carried out the rest of the time. Because the flower buds are rather fragile, they should not be moved casually. You can cover it with a black plastic bag or a larger box so that it cannot see any light at all. After about 40 days of this treatment, it can produce more buds and bloom more and more vividly.

Other care for bougainvillea during the flowering period:

1. Apply more phosphorus fertilizer

Bougainvillea blooms in large numbers and needs sufficient nutrients, and phosphorus fertilizer can make bougainvillea produce more buds and bloom more flowers. Therefore, during the bud-setting period, supplement enough phosphorus fertilizer; every 10 days you can apply a fertilizer solution mainly based on phosphorus fertilizer.

2. Pruning

It should be pruned irregularly, pruning overly dense branches, inner branches, diseased and damaged branches, etc. After the flowers fade, also promptly prune off the spent flowers to reduce excessive nutrient consumption, so as to shorten the next growth period and promote the next round of bud setting and flowering in bougainvillea.

That is all for the care of bougainvillea. If flower lovers have other additions, you can share them with everyone in the comment section below. If you want to learn more about flower-growing knowledge, you can follow Huajianke!
