2018 Miaoli Hakka Tung Blossom Wedding: 66 Couples Tie the Knot with "Tung" Hearts Forever
The 2018 Miaoli Hakka Tung Blossom Wedding romantically took the stage yesterday (the 6th) in the morning at West Lake Resortopia in Sanyi Township. 66 happy couples from across the country walked the red carpet and passed through the Tung Blessing Arch, exchanging romantic vows together, and under the witness and blessings of Miaoli County Magistrate Hsu Yao-chang and his wife, they pledged themselves to each other for life and set off toward happiness.
The Miaoli Hakka Tung Blossom Wedding enters its 13th year this year, with the theme "Miaoli Bridal Journey: Tung Hearts Forever." To let the couples experience traditional Hakka wedding customs, this year featured a "Happy Trilogy" of blooming flowers and round tung nuts through the ancient ceremony of welcoming the bride, the lantern-lighting ceremony, and the bowing ceremony. To the marching music of a traditional Miaoli Hakka bayin wedding procession, Miaoli's mascot "Miaoli Miao" and entertainer Chung Hsin-yi led the 66 couples in. Next, they received fertility lanterns, and the couples together hung the "added lanterns" on the flower-beam trellis. Finally, they drank the cross-cup wedding tea; the red date tea carries the beautiful meaning of "dates bringing noble sons." The wedding scene was lively and warm, filled with a sweet atmosphere.
This year's Tung Blossom Wedding also featured a cross-cultural couple: groom Sudik from India and Miaoli Hakka girl Chang Pei-ti, who met online. The bride loves Indian culture, and the two went from meeting to falling in love over a sari, crossing the distance of language and geography. That day the bride also wore traditional Indian clothing, becoming the focus of the cameras.
Magistrate Hsu Yao-chang and his wife also demonstrated a kiss for the couples on site, bringing the event to a climax. Amid romantic orchestral music and jazz singing, the 66 couples exchanged marriage vows and put on necklaces symbolizing hearts in harmony, finally completing the wedding ceremony with a deep kiss, their sweetness, happiness and romance off the charts.
