2018 Yilan International Children's Folklore & Folkgame Festival - Play Plus Workshop

"I want to build the playground of my dreams!" The Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Yilan County Government is holding the "Play Plus Workshop" for the first time. In addition to listening to children in the county share their suggestions for the festival, it also lets participants learn physics principles and architectural knowledge through play, build creative space models with their own hands, and even get a free passport to enjoy the 2018 Yilan International Children's Folklore & Folkgame Festival. This time, 80 participants will be selected, and the opening ceremony and experiential course will be held on July 22 (Sunday) at the "Zhongxing Cultural and Creative Park." Students from grades 4 to 9 nationwide should not miss this rare opportunity!

Each year, the festival uses different themes to let children and adults enjoy the fun atmosphere of performances, exhibitions, games, and exchange. Li Zhiyong, director of the Yilan County Cultural Affairs Bureau, said that in its 23rd year and 19th edition, the festival is specially adding the "Play Plus Workshop," inviting children from across the country to discuss and build their dream field of joy. During the one-day workshop, through teamwork, participants create from building blocks combined with mechanical principles of force, then use discarded materials and simple supplies to build colorful play spaces and architectural models through participatory design. These finished works will not only be exhibited at the festival forum site, but may also be upgraded and evolve in the future, becoming one of the dreams that is realized.

The "Play Plus Workshop" is open to students in grades 4 to 9. Individuals may register, and siblings, classmates, friends, or neighbors are even more welcome to form teams of 4. In addition to submitting basic information in the application documents, applicants must film a 3-minute short video describing their expectations for the festival, traditional play experiences while growing up, imagination for future play, and ideas for play inspired by things around them. It is hoped this will stimulate students' potential and use video to show their unique creative thinking.

The workshop offers online registration only. Submissions are open from now until June 15, 107 (Friday). The organizer will invite domestic experts and scholars to review the entries and select the top 80. The list will be announced on June 25, 107 (Monday), and applicants will also be notified by letter. Those selected will not only receive one 2018 Yilan International Children's Folklore & Folkgame Festival play passport for unlimited entry and a certificate of participation, but those with outstanding performance can also receive one medal.
