Tainan's Qiumao Park Reappears After 30 Years in Dusty Seclusion; Come to Yuguang Island for a Forest Bath
Located within the windbreak forest of Yuguang Island, the 1-kilometer-long "Forest Trail" has finally been completed. The trail starts from Yuguang Bridge and runs north, linking up to the embankment of the old Anping Port. Since almost the entire route lies beneath the primeval forest, it has become a great spot for people to stroll and relax. Yesterday (the 22nd), Tainan Mayor Li Meng-yen also led bureau chiefs on a personal visit to experience the natural ecology. Mayor Li Meng-yen praised Yuguang Island as a veritable hidden paradise of Tainan, noting that people need only cross the bridge to come here for a forest bath, which is very rare. Mayor Li Meng-yen pointed out that construction around Yuguang Island is continuing, including the development project for the leisure and recreation area at Anping Port across the way, as well as the subsequent construction of the cross-harbor bridge, both of which will help make Yuguang Island a new tourism landmark with promising future prospects.
Yuguang Island is the Sankunshen of the Taijiang Inner Sea. Although the surrounding area has gone through harbor opening, the establishment of an industrial zone, and various public construction and urban expansion projects, the life of the settlement has always maintained a quiet and simple character, while the dense windbreak forest's natural scenery is even rarer in a flatland city. Mayor Li Meng-yen pointed out that Yuguang Island has attractions such as the primeval forest and Half Moon Bay, and its beach has even been rated as one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Taiwan, China. Last year (the 106th year of the Republic of China), the city government held the Yuguang Island Art Festival here, which also received an enthusiastic response. He believes most visitors come because of the beautiful scenery here, and the city government will devote itself to protecting Yuguang Island's natural environment.
In addition to the newly built trail, the Anping Fishing Port cross-harbor bridge connecting Chengping Road to Yonghua Road is also about to begin construction. In addition, around Yuguang Island there are also development projects such as the Anping Marina Area, the Sankunshen Tourism and Recreation Commercial Area, and the Yuguang Island reclaimed land. In the future, visitors to Tainan will not only be able to eat snacks and see historic sites in the city, but also enjoy water activities or take a boat out to sea, increasing the depth of Tainan's tourism.
