Exchanges with the Medical Device Industry: Premier Lai Ching-te: Promote Development

Premier Lai Ching-te visited Apex Medical Corporation on the 5th. During exchanges and discussions with the medical device industry, he said the government has proposed four action plans for the medical device industry, starting from improving the industrial ecosystem, clustering biotechnology parks, connecting international resources, and developing distinctive clusters, hoping to work with the industry to develop Taiwan's medical biotechnology industry.

Premier Lai Ching-te affirmed Apex Medical Corporation's achievements in the medical device industry. The company's products have not only won the Taiwan Excellence Award and the National Stone Award, but have also passed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration premarket notification for medical devices (FDA 510k). It is currently Taiwan's first Class II medical device company. In addition to R&D and manufacturing in Taiwan, its products also have bases in Europe, the United States, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, and are marketed in dozens of countries, making it a model of being rooted in Taiwan and deploying globally.

Premier Lai Ching-te said the government attaches great importance to the medical device industry, and therefore proposed four action plans for exchange and cooperation with the industry: First, improve the industrial ecosystem, starting from six aspects: talent cultivation, capital supply, establishment of a legal environment, intellectual property protection, proper use of resources, and topic selection. Second, relevant ministries and agencies should fully connect Taiwan's medical, biotechnology, and medical device parks, such as the "National Biotechnology Research Park" in Nangang in the north and the Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park; distinctive biotechnology clusters in the south, with output value also growing year by year.

Third, connect international resources. The government provides merger and acquisition funds or syndicated loans to help Taiwanese businesses merge with or acquire internationally promising small pharmaceutical, medical device, and distribution companies, further connecting international-level resources for continued development. Fourth, develop distinctive clusters. At present, the Ministry of Health and Welfare is drafting legislation related to precision medicine, allowing Taiwan's biotechnology industry or medical sector to develop in the direction of precision medicine; second, develop clusters of international-level distinctive clinics or medical device parks.
