Growing succulents on a whim won't work; the road to a succulent garden is full of ups and downs!
On 4.24 I went to Huaiyang to see my best friend. On the way back I passed a succulent greenhouse, so I thought I'd go in and take a look. I'd seen several people in Moments growing beautiful succulents, and I'd been eager to try it myself.
As soon as we went into the greenhouse, my husband and I couldn't control ourselves. Since I didn't know how to plant them, we just bought the succulents and pots and had the owner plant them for us. We only stopped when the trunk was crammed full, but that was just the beginning.
Later I found that the soil and top dressing used for planting were no good, and they were also prone to getting bugs. I only discovered all this afterward. From that first greenhouse purchase, quite a lot died...
The picture below is from the first purchase. I added a filter. By now, many of these succulents have already died.
This is the flower rack we already had at home. I bought it last year and put quite a lot of green plants on it. They all died over one winter, so I moved the rack up to the rooftop attic.
After placing the newly bought succulents on it, it always felt very empty, and my husband said that if succulents were kept in the attic like this, they would grow very ugly and should be grown outdoors, placed outside. Anyway, after we bought succulents, he kept searching all kinds of succulent knowledge online.
He is the kind of person who is very serious about doing things. If he does something, he must do it very well. When I said, let's make a small garden for our unborn daughter, he started working hard at it~
At that time I still didn't understand things like adjusting to the pot. I just thought they looked nice outside with that wall of roses, so without caring whether it was sunny or how strong the sun was, I just moved them out.
The picture below was taken just after we moved them out. Of course, before moving them out we had gone to the greenhouse again, because I foolishly bought a bunch of fancy-patterned pots, and the succulent experts in Moments laughed at me, saying the pots I bought were very unprofessional and obviously the choice of a newbie.
The greenhouse owner also said the pots were too fancy and made the succulents look bad. There was no helping it. I myself think the road to growing succulents is full of ups and downs. Who doesn't take a few detours? I'm still quite open-minded about it~
This is the first anti-corrosion wood flower rack, taken apart from that large flower rack in the attic. Obviously, the previously empty rack can no longer hold them all now, so let's buy another flower rack.
Obviously, two flower racks are not quite enough either, and as it gets hotter and hotter, it's almost time to put up shade netting. Once my best friends arranged a rooftop barbecue, and then we found that the light in the rooftop attic couldn't illuminate the outside, so my husband bought some small light strips and strung them up, and instantly it became much brighter.
At night I often go up to the rooftop to cool off, lying on a lounge chair next to the succulents and playing on my phone. My boring pregnancy has also become incredibly fulfilling because I fell into the succulent pit~
We bought from that first greenhouse twice in total and then never went there again. We bought some from other greenhouses, and all the rest were bought from watching Taobao livestreams and on apps.
The picture below is from the first time I watched a livestream and bought succulents. I had no experience and didn't understand, so I just thought that if a shop's level was high, the quality would be good. Then I bought a bunch, from a certain Legend shop. After receiving them, I was devastated: stretched, broken, rootless, missing cores...
Even now, every time my husband sees succulents from this shop, he complains about me, saying that spending so much money on a pile of junk is not as good as buying one fine specimen.
When my aunt saw that I had fallen into the succulent pit, she, as a veteran succulent lover, invited me to her home and gave me many small succulents she had propagated so I could practice.
My husband made two arrangements, and it was in the middle of the night when I woke up and found he wasn't in bed, so I went up to the rooftop to take a look. Sure enough, he was planting succulents again, haha, and he was very serious about it.
The two trays below are what I think are the most successful little cute succulents I bought from watching livestreams. My husband arranged them pretty well for me: Peach Eggs and Alba Beauty from a cheating-zone area.
It's already early summer now. Of course, with the two of us constantly buying our own and endlessly buying, buying, buying, the anti-corrosion wood flower rack was long unable to hold them all.
After all kinds of consideration, we welded new flower racks and bought leak-proof netting to lay on them. Of course, they still don't fit, so now there are still many that haven't adjusted to their pots and are sitting in the attic. One day of high temperatures during outdoor growing, I forgot to pull the shade netting, and that big tray of Peach Eggs in the picture below is now all just pots.
