Walking into the Flower and Tree City, all kinds of New Year flowers are already on the market, a scene of blooming splendor. There are passionate, bold and grand large combination potted plants, as well as fresh, elegant, small and pleasant mini potted green plants. It is reported that this New Year flower market will run from January 12 all the way to January 26. In addition to the more than 100 permanent merchants in the existing Flower and Tree City, a temporary greenhouse of more than 1,000 sq m has been set up on the square, which can accommodate more than 50 New Year flower merchants.
The reporter visited several New Year flower merchants and found that Phalaenopsis orchids, Cymbidium orchids, bromeliads,Anthuriumare still the "Four Great Beauties" of the New Year flower market. Taking Cymbidium orchids as an example, the varieties have not changed much compared with previous years, still mainly the yellow "Golden Years" and "Golden Light", the red "Red Plum" and "Radiance", the pink "Pink Champion" and "Candlelight", and the green "World Peace" and "Memory of the Past", with prices basically flat compared with last year. "As the Spring Festival sales peak approaches, prices will rise by more than 20% on the current basis. At present, the yellow 'Golden Years' has risen from 90 yuan per pot some time ago to 110 yuan." a seller said.
Compared with the "calm" of Cymbidium orchids, this year's Phalaenopsis orchid prices are a bit "enthusiastic". "Because Phalaenopsis orchid prices were generally low last year, some Phalaenopsis orchid growers reduced their planting volume, which to a certain extent led to fewer Phalaenopsis orchids and higher prices this year, with prices up about 10% from last year." said Yu Dingguang, general manager of Zhejiang Flower and Tree City Co., Ltd.
Affordable flowers are popular with families
"Now, people's consumption level has risen a lot compared with the past, everyone pays more and more attention to quality of life, and families have become the main buyers of New Year flowers." said Xiao Yuan, who has been engaged in flower sales for nearly ten years. Generally, people want something festive for the New Year, so varieties with bright colors and affordable prices are the most popular with families. For example, Anthurium has bright flowers and a long flowering period, and a pot costs between 30 yuan and 60 yuan, with several hundred pots sold a day.
At the New Year flower market, there are also some novel varieties emerging, such as alpine rhododendrons, red jade beads, and winterberry. Potted tulips, mini kalanchoe, mini cyclamen and other "small and beautiful" potted flowers are loved by many young people because they are suitable for placing on office desks and writing desks.
Every year at this time, Mr. Yao's family always goes to the Flower and Tree City to pick out several pots of New Year flowers. "Spend a few hundred yuan, buy five or six pots of flowers, add a bit of vitality to the home and also add a bit of festivity to the New Year." Mr. Yao said that apart from one pot of Phalaenopsis orchids, the rest are basically small potted flowers, which are economical and affordable.
