Dalad Banner hosts forestry science and technology rural poverty alleviation activity
From May 23 to 25, a team of experts led by the head of the Extension Division of the Department of Science and Technology of the State Forestry Administration, and composed of members from the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Beijing Forestry University, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, the Ordos Municipal Forestry Bureau and the Municipal Academy of Forestry, carried out the activity "2017 National Forestry Science and Technology Week Series Activities - Forestry Science and Technology Rural Poverty Alleviation Comes to Dalad Banner." The activity included science popularization exhibitions, technical consultations, special lectures, on-site guidance and other content. Wang Guoxiang, former vice chairman of the Ordos Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of the Municipal Sand Prevention and Desertification Control Association, attended the activity.
During the expert lectures, experts from the Institute of New Technology of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, the head of the National Forest Tree Germplasm Resource Sharing Service Platform, the School of Soil and Water Conservation of Beijing Forestry University, and the Ordos Municipal Forestry Bureau respectively gave special reports on "China's Sand Prevention and Desertification Control Situation and Engineering Treatment," "Building an Industry-University-Research Platform for Germplasm Resources to Support Desertification Prevention and Control," "China's Railway Sand Prevention and Desertification Control Technology," and "Mengzao Jujube Cultivation Technology." The reports explained knowledge related to the harm that land desertification brings to humanity, sand land afforestation supporting the construction of the "Belt and Road," the effective use of science and technology for planting, and practical economic forest cultivation techniques. More than 80 people, including technical personnel from the Dalad Banner Forestry Bureau and its subordinate forestry system and farmers and herders, listened to the reports.
The expert group also went deep into the fields and conducted on-site surveys of the Dalad Banner Forestry Bureau Mengzao Jujube Improved Variety Breeding Base, the Forest-Landscape Integration Sanhu Agricultural Development Project Area, the Engebei Ecological Demonstration Zone, the Public Welfare Forest Desert Tree Planting Base, the Modern Sunshine Agriculture Circular Economy Demonstration Zone and other places, providing hands-on on-site teaching or offering guidance for the technical difficulties encountered in the process of local economic forest cultivation.
During the activity, the expert group also distributed publicity materials such as brief introductions to relevant achievements and practical techniques for sand prevention and desertification control to community residents, popularizing common forestry knowledge and scientific concepts.
This session of Forestry Science and Technology Week was hosted by the State Forestry Administration and undertaken by 13 units including the Department of Science and Technology of the State Forestry Administration and the Chinese Academy of Forestry. With the theme "Advancing Ecological Civilization, Building a Beautiful China - Scientifically Preventing and Controlling Desertification, Joining Hands to Build a Green Homeland," and with the purpose of preventing and controlling desertification, protecting nature, protecting ecology, and raising public awareness of ecological protection, it was a science popularization activity mainly focused on publicizing forestry science knowledge such as ecological civilization, desertification prevention and control, and psammophytes, as well as promoting the achievements of forestry science and technology in desertification control and poverty alleviation.
