Orchids need light: master the technique and the leaves stay lush and green

The orchid is a shade-loving plant, but orchid growers should also understand that light is indispensable for the orchid's growth. In summer the light is very strong; you can let the orchid get some sunlight in the morning, and after 9 o'clock you should start shading it, to avoid the orchid being exposed to direct sunlight. Only in this way can the orchid's leaves stay lush and green and its flowers bloom even more beautifully!
Master the light technique in orchid care
Although orchids love shade, they cannot grow in a completely dark environment, so overall light is indispensable. Without sunlight, orchids cannot carry out photosynthesis, the accumulation of organic matter is hindered, and the orchid cannot obtain nutrients. So, on the premise of avoiding exposure to the blazing sun, you should still give the orchid a proper amount of sunlight. When the sun is weaker in the afternoon, you can put the orchid on the balcony to get some sunlight.
Light treatment in different seasons
In winter, when the temperature is lower, orchids need more light, so that they can make it safely through the winter. In summer, when the light is stronger, let the orchid get sunlight in the morning or in the evening, so the leaves will not be scorched by the sun. In spring and autumn, simply keep the light diffused.
Light requirements of different orchid varieties
Depending on the variety, orchids have different light requirements. Cymbidium ensifolium (jianlan) generally has a high demand for light, and about 60-70% shading in summer is enough; Cymbidium goeringii (chunlan) and Cymbidium faberi (huilan) need 70-80% shading; Cymbidium sinense (molan) does not like light, and shading needs to reach about 85%. Only in this way can the orchids bloom well.
Orchid growers should now understand that although orchids do not like to bask in the sun, light must not be lacking. When light is lacking, the orchid cannot obtain sufficient nutrients and cannot grow healthily. But do not let direct sunlight hit it either. Usually pay attention to shading and watering, and follow the rule of not watering when the soil is not dry. Only in this way can the orchid have lush green leaves and abundant, flourishing flowers.
