Which legumes are suitable for growing on a balcony?

These days, how many people have a balcony at home without a few little flowers and plants growing on it? Have you ever thought about growing a few melons or beans too? A little melon here, a little bean there, just to satisfy your own cravings. So which legume plants can survive on a balcony? Today let's introduce a few of them to you. Plant beans, harvest beans: legumes suitable for growing on a balcony!
I. Green beans
Green beans can grow without support and can also be grown in pots; when the plant reaches maturity, it will flower and produce beans in abundance, so it is not hard to see that the plant needs sufficient nutrients to meet its daily growth as well as the formation of flowers and pods; the soil used for planting must not only have a good base fertilizer but also be combined with top dressing, and water is naturally indispensable, as water can dilute the fertilizer and let the plant absorb it more fully.
Green beans grown on a balcony produce somewhat smaller beans due to the limitations of the pot soil, but they can still satisfy the family's cravings; however, green beans should be blanched in hot water before cooking to remove their slight toxicity, and don't eat too many of them.
II. Yardlong beans
This season is the peak production period for yardlong beans, with pods of even thickness and a pale green color. You can plant them during the peak season too, but you will have to wait until autumn to taste the fruits of your own labor.
Before putting yardlong beans into the pot, water them thoroughly; in the early stage, guide the vines onto the support in one direction, and do this on a sunny morning. The plant has very good extension in the later stage and will climb and grow on its own; do not apply too much fertilizer in the early stage, as water control is the most important part. Keep the pot soil moist at all times so as to encourage the sprouting of side branches, and only then can more buds grow. A plant that blooms more and bears more fruit is no dream; the base soil for raising seedlings should be tamped firm.
III. Fava beans
Fava beans are neither too big nor too small, just right for balcony space; their main stem is short and thick, and they fear summer. Their temperature requirements change continuously with the growth stage, and during the vigorous growth period their temperature requirements are relatively low. Too high a temperature will hinder their growth, so when caring for them you should do some temperature-control protection.
Fava beans are deep-rooted plants, so choose flower pots with a deep bottom for care. Loose pot soil not only benefits root growth but also has strong drainage, effectively alleviating the fava bean's fear of water. Especially during the period of flowering and fruiting, more attention should be paid to loosening the soil and draining water; when the fava beans are ripe, pick the pods from bottom to top when harvesting.
The fruits borne by plants you grow yourself taste especially delicious. Would you like to taste what the fruits of your own labor are like?
