Now the main text begins:
Winter goes and spring comes, all things revive, and it is once again...
the season when we are willing to fuss over our succulents.
Without the conditions for outdoor growing, I can only hope the weather warms up soon so I can open the windows.
But spring in Liaoning was a bit capricious this year. It even snowed in April, and people from Northeast China nearly froze to death in spring. Although spring came a little late, fortunately it did come. Spring came late but left early, and in an instant it was summer.
I think every succulent only counts as going through one stage after a full year and four seasons by our side, and it takes N stages to make a fairly good comparison.
After all, we need to get familiar with each other and understand each other. Alright, without further ado, welcome to summer in Northeast China, and welcome to take a look at my succulents.
First, let's look at the first batch of succulents from when I fell down the rabbit hole. This is a photo of Echeveria pulidonis from 2015.
November of the same year
Around February 2017, it bloomed for the first time, and it was also the first time I saw it bloom. I was very excited at the time.
In 2018, it bloomed again. This time, I tried pollinating it and collecting seeds.
As for the seeds, we will talk about that later. While it was blooming and being pollinated, it also produced two pups, and even the main head was squeezed out of shape. Plus, I personally do not like multi-headed plants, so I separated them.
Below is the Sedum clavatum from 2015.
In 2016, I repotted it and it grew leggy, and I even tied it up tightly.
It in 2017
It also produced many, many pups, which I gave away to different people, really many, many. Below are just the ones I found more special. The small one is the daughter, and the big one is the great-grandchild. Yes, I said it right, and you read it right too (indoor white light).
I really did not adjust the colors on these two (indoor yellow light). Both were leaf-propagated from the same mother plant.
The same environment with different soil mixes produces different appearances. I am still studying what kind of difference makes them grow differently. If I find out, I will share it.
Speaking of the same environment and different appearances, I thought of my Pachyphytum oviferum.
The green one is the daughter, and the one in good condition is the granddaughter. What about the mother? The mother was given to a friend (when I give away succulents, I always give away the big ones). The granddaughter is in pure grit, while the daughter is not in good condition, so I cut off its roots and was about to water-propagate it after taking the photo (I absolutely love water propagation).
Later, I started buying succulents online, and the quality was truly unmatched. By comparison, the succulents from the village chief's place are still stronger (I am secretly plotting a comparison post about the succulents from the village chief's place). The one below is my super favorite Graptosedum 'Bronze'.
These two when they first started
The Pachyphytum oviferum in this pot is the mother plant I mentioned earlier that was given away.
Graptosedum 'Bronze' is really easy to grow and loves to show its colors.
I like thumb pots.
A few days ago, I used its children and grandchildren to make a hanging basket. I did not take a photo, and I am waiting for them to root.
Personally, I do not distinguish succulents by whether they are expensive or cheap, nor am I overly obsessed with expensive varieties or Korean imports. As long as I like them, that is enough.
You should know that many common varieties today were once so-called expensive varieties. They were once glorious too. Please treat them with care!
Only by staying true to your original intention when growing succulents can you do well!!
Thank you to those who read to the end. If you like it, give it a like. I wish everyone's succulents good health.
