Now let's begin the main text:
As a busy office worker, I rush back and forth between home and work every day on the same two-point line, juggling miscellaneous work tasks and the trivial matters of raising children woven through the days and nights of life. In the occasional spare moments, what remains is endless zoning out and aimless killing of time. Though it is monotonous yet fulfilling, I always feel something is missing.
I think it was the busyness of life that made me lose my sense of self in seeking interests and joy in life, until I encountered a lovely, rich, ever-changing plant all rolled into one - the succulent. It gave my life something to look forward to, because it is worth my waiting.
I was born curious about the unknown, and succulents satisfied all my needs. Why does it hold such an attraction for me? Because of its personality. Succulents have personality?
I think so. Not only are they vibrant, they also live with quite a bit of character. The succulents I have encountered all have distinct personalities. If you don't believe me, take a look at this batch. These are all succulents I grew when I first got into the hobby. They are extremely proud and prickly, giving me attitude at the drop of a hat, stubborn and willful. I understand - maybe we had just met and weren't familiar with each other yet!
This pot of Damo Fu Niang forgot its supposed dainty charm after just a few heavy waterings. It is a free-spirited succulent.
This pot of Huoji (Fire Festival), after coming back from the greenhouse, gradually shed its red coat. It is a succulent that is not what it appears to be.
This pot of Nikeshana keeps foolishly growing bigger and bigger. It is a succulent with a simple mind and a strong body.
This pot of Yindika, when it first came back, was called caffeine and heroin a few times. This name too easily causes big misunderstandings, ugh! Calling it wrong a few times caused everyone's astonishment. Just like its name, it then began its awkward succulent life, and its changes made me unable to bear looking directly at it several times.
This pot of small ball roses, I carefully tended her, giving her the spot with the best light in my home, and often misting it, almost once a day, as cautiously as attending to a queen. But it just turned into this droopy mess. Please let me be quiet for a moment.
This pot is the common variety Allen. When I first bought it, she was my darling, plump ones squeezed together one by one. I fantasized several times about their beautiful appearance changing from light purple to pink, and the surprising growth about to overflow the pot. But the good times did not last. After several rounds of my beautiful expectations, what it gave me was a basin of cold ice water splashed on my face. I do not understand - I treated it so well, why did it treat me like this? So ugly that I dare not look at it again.
After seeing my succulents, I think you laughed. Yes, aren't these just succulents that have been badly grown? In my place, this batch of succulents I call "uninhibited lovers of freedom." They grow recklessly, not caring whether you like it or not, not because of your love or lack of it. They only care about themselves, like wild horses that have broken free of their reins, so fearless and unafraid. But I still think they are lovely. It is these succulents that made me practice my succulent-growing skills more intensively and hone my techniques further.
The next batch really showed me something beautiful, and made me understand a saying,What does it mean to astonish the years? It was my patience and expectation that let them feel it! They did not let down my companionship, giving me the confidence to continue, and also making me understand what the true essence of growing succulents is!
Now, from just a few succulents at the beginning, my home gradually has nearly 200 succulents of different varieties. I think my stamp-collecting mentality will continue for a while longer, and remembering succulent names is also quite a laborious task. But because of love, I quickly became an expert at identifying succulents!
Hehe, friends often ask me to identify succulents, but after I randomly call out names and have her label them, I really have no confidence deep down! Because there are many succulent friends around me, we often appreciate, evaluate, and chat together, making my life colorful and diverse. I love succulents, and I love life. I am not sad because they willfully turn ugly, nor joyful because they are beautiful and splendid. Everything is just as life should be. They are reckless, and I am peaceful. As days go by, a steady stream flows on.
