Many people do not know about the cinnamon tree. It can be made into one of the most popular spices in the world, usually used as a seasoning for dishes. Few people can resist its spicy yet sweet fragrance. It can also be used in gardening to achieve sterilization and disinfection.

Growing a few cinnamon trees in the yard is well worth it. Its bark can be made into a spice, and its leaves are also fragrant.

There are many varieties of cinnamon trees. The peace lily tree we commonly grow at home is called Lanyu cinnamon (Cinnamomum kotoense). The most popular ones are Sri Lankan cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) and Chinese cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia), among which Chinese cinnamon has the strongest fragrance.

Growing a cinnamon tree is especially easy. It can even be cultivated in a pot. It likes a dry environment year-round. For the growing soil, choose a loose, well-draining, slightly acidic soil.

In the process of growing cinnamon, you need to set up a pole for it so it grows upright and fixed, and also prune it regularly to maintain a good plant shape.

The environment for growing a cinnamon tree needs to have sufficient light. Avoid keeping it in a shaded place. Only with more light every day can it grow vigorously.

If you choose to propagate directly by sowing seeds, the cinnamon tree can be propagated after spring warms up. After planting in the soil, keep it moist, and it will generally sprout in about three weeks. When the cinnamon seedlings grow larger, they should be transplanted into a larger container.

In later care of the cinnamon tree, fertilize regularly, generally giving a dilute organic liquid fertilizer once a month. When the plant grows taller, pinch off the top to maintain a good plant shape.

During the growth of the cinnamon tree, replenish water regularly to avoid long-term drought. When the soil dries out completely, water it thoroughly. The minimum temperature for caring for a cinnamon tree should be kept above 5°C to avoid frost damage.

If you want to make its bark into cinnamon powder or cinnamon sticks, you must wait until the plant grows to more than 3 m tall and the branches are 2 to 5 cm wide. Only then can you collect them.

A cinnamon tree generally needs to grow for more than two years before the bark can be harvested. The environment for growing a cinnamon tree should maintain good ventilation and have fairly sufficient direct sunlight every day.

The collected bark can be soaked in warm water and then completely dried. Finally, store them in an airtight container indoors in a dry, cool place.

After being made into cinnamon powder, it can be sprinkled directly on the soil surface. It can also be used to promote the growth of seedlings or other plants and can help avoid infection by pathogens.
