Once summer arrives, everyone loves to grow a few pots of mint. Not only does it look nice, it also repels mosquitoes and insects, and some varieties can even be eaten as a vegetable or picked to brew tea, filling the whole room with a faint fragrance that refreshes the heart! I used to have no feelings for this stuff, but recently I grew a few pots and fell in love with it without even realizing it.

So what should you pay attention to when growing mint? How do you grow it? Today I'll introduce it to everyone.

1. Variety selection. There are quite a lot of mint varieties, including lemon mint, peppermint, pineapple mint, spearmint and so on. If you want to grow it to eat, peppermint and spearmint both taste good, and these are the two varieties we usually buy in the market. If you are only growing it for ornamental purposes, all of the above varieties can be chosen.

2. Pot and soil selection. Mint likes loose soil with strong air permeability, and its requirements for soil are not very high. Using some garden soil or buying some nutrient soil online will basically meet the requirements. For the flowerpot, a clay pot material is better because it has good air permeability. Growing mint does not need a very attractive flowerpot to match it; a pot around 15-20cm is enough.

3. Water and fertilizer. Mint quite likes soil with sufficient moisture, especially in summer. You roughly need to water once a day, and each time you water, water it thoroughly, otherwise the roots rot easily. If indoor ventilation is not that good, appropriately reduce the watering frequency to prevent water accumulation in the pot. You can try using a plant and flower detector to check the water and fertilizer conditions of the potting soil. Just insert the device into the potting soil and it can detect the water and fertilizer content of the plants and flowers, so you can water scientifically.

Some gardening enthusiasts grow mint with glossy green leaves, while others' mint looks malnourished and a bit yellow. This means the mint lacks nutrients. During the growing period, mint needs fertilizer supplementation. You can choose Huadongde fruit-and-vegetable type organic nutrient solution, purely plant-fermented, with zero hormones, safe. Fertilize once every half month, and the mint grows emerald green.

4. Light. Mint likes sunlight. If there is plenty of sunlight, it will grow relatively fast, and it is quite suitable for growing in summer. If there is not enough sunlight, it will grow leggy, the leaves will stop growing, and the plant's resistance will also become weaker, so give mint plenty of sun.

There is a little trick for growing mint so it bursts out of the pot: during the growing period, keep pinching off the growing tips. This lets the mint grow many side shoots, and bursting out of the pot is just that simple. So, keeping a mint at home, isn't it like keeping a treasure?
