Loving to grow flowers and loving to keep fish do not conflict. Many flower enthusiasts keep a few ornamental fish at home as well, then arrange them together to build some kind of ecological space. But what really counts as a mini ecosystem? It has to start with recycling resources! Today let's first talk about the benefits of using aquarium water to water flowers!

1. Regulating soil acidity and alkalinity

Water from a fish tank is slightly acidic, with a pH mostly around 6. It is good for plants that prefer slightly acidic soil, such as pothos, copper grass, split-leaf philodendron, peace lily, spider plant, narcissus, and hyacinth.

2. Providing nutrients and fertilizer

The water in a fish tank contains nitrates, nitrites, ammonia nitrogen, fish excrement and other substances, which can provide the nutrients needed for plant growth.

So how do you use aquarium water?

1. You cannot directly use freshly changed aquarium water for watering, because there is a certain temperature difference and this is bad for plants, so it is best to let it sit for 1-2 days until the water temperature is more or less close to our usual temperature. If it is summer or winter, pay special attention to this point, because water that is too hot or too cold is no good.

2. We sometimes plant some aquatic plants in the fish tank, which makes the tank look very lively, and when the fish swim among the aquatic plants, it looks very nice from the outside, so we fertilize these aquatic plants. If you use the sunken water after fertilizing to water flowers, the water contains more fertilizer, so at the beginning pay attention to the growth condition of the flowers. If the growth is vigorous, then reduce fertilizing, otherwise the flowers will grow leggy.

3. If there are aquatic plants in the fish tank, then we need to filter the water changed out of the tank first, because snails may appear, and snails are bad for plants. If they accidentally get into the flower pot, remove them quickly.

Also remember, if disinfecting salt or other fish medicine has been put into the fish tank water, do not use it to water flowers! Otherwise it will cause the plants to dehydrate and dry up!
