June inevitably brings hot and humid weather, and it is believed that most regions across the country have already started experiencing intermittent rain, and after the rain comes blazing sun. So how can you keep succulent plants thriving in such hot and humid weather? Let's take a look together!

First, the issue of supplementing sunlight. Although succulent plants are all fairly drought-tolerant, if the local temperature exceeds 33°C, you still need to quickly put up a shade net. But for those whose conditions do not allow it, the only option is to move them indoors (even if they turn into green leafy vegetables, that is still better than dying, but be sure to pay attention to indoor ventilation).

1. The importance of ventilation

A ventilated environment has always been key to the survival of succulent plants, because if it is hot and humid in summer without ventilation, succulents are very prone to pests and diseases. Especially during the rainy season in May and June, when air humidity is too high, it can very easily affect the growth of succulents, so when growing succulents in summer, we must always pay attention to indoor ventilation.

Ceramic flower pots in different styles and patterns can also bring you a different visual experience. If succulents that have weathered wind and frost and intense heat can be paired with such an easy-on-the-eyes planter and then placed on a side table beside the sofa, it is simply like a beautiful landscape, and white, plain-colored, elegantly understated flower pots are exactly our ideal choice.

The symbol of spring, the succulent Spring Beauty (Sedum 'Chunmeng'), not only has an enchanting color, but also inherits the fragrance of its mother plant, Sedum 'Qingzhilian'. Its long ovate leaves range in color from green to yellow-green and are arranged in a lotus-like rosette. In an environment with ample light and a large temperature difference between day and night, they take on a jelly-like translucence, full of adorable charm, and thus it is named Spring Beauty.

2. Controlling succulent etiolation

Because most succulent varieties are very prone to etiolation in summer, in order to control the shape of the succulents, we need to promptly clean up the dead leaves growing at the base of the succulent plants (completely withered; after removing them, also promptly spray carbendazim to prevent fungal infection), so as to ensure that the succulent plants retain enough nutrients to get through the summer.

The green-fruited succulent Willow Leaf Lotus (Graptosedum 'Liuyelianhua') is a plant in the Crassulaceae family, Sedum genus, and it is also a hybrid of Sedum 'Yinüxin' and Sedum 'Jingye'. Its form and appearance mostly come from the adorable Sedum 'Yinüxin', while its small red tips carry a bit of the look of Sedum 'Jingye'. Its flowering period is in spring, and it generally produces yellow star-shaped flowers.

When pruning dead leaves for succulent plants, make sure the cuts are smooth and flat (this kind of wound heals more easily). The Taiwan, China-imported root-trimming scissors with oxidation treatment have a long-lasting sharp cutting effect and at the same time are not likely to cause damage to the roots and stems of succulent plants.

3. Do not water with cold water

Some succulent enthusiasts who have just entered the hobby may think that the potting soil for growing succulents is at a relatively high temperature and that water evaporates in large amounts, so they use cold water to irrigate their succulents. But what they do not know is that watering succulents with water that is too cold not only tends to slow down the root activity rate of the plant, but also easily causes the plant to turn to mush.

Sedum 'Xuangye Jixing Meiren' not only easily fills out its pot, but is also extremely easy to keep alive. After the initial stage of planting in moist soil and letting it establish in dry conditions, its growth rate increases noticeably. At the same time, this plant is also very suitable for placement on a sunny windowsill, balcony, or indoors as a decorative accent.

The difficulty of getting succulents through the summer is actually not that high; the real test of each succulent enthusiast's practical experience comes during the period in early autumn when the temperature difference between day and night changes greatly.
