What kind of feeling is it to tend flowers with care?

Tending flowers with care is a feeling
What is a flower? A flower is an atmosphere,
a mood, and even more a refined delight.
Snow-white jasmine, like pearls and like snow,
its fragrance makes one forget sorrow;
mock orange is like crushed gold,
when its subtle scent drifts,
sweet and warm;
white orchid blossoms, one after another, seem carved from golden jade,
exquisite, translucent, with the very texture of jade,
its fragrance penetrates the lungs and reaches straight to the bone;
when narcissus blooms, it is exactly the new spring when the cold lingers.
Flowers, like people, cycle through the seasons,
and the seasons leave their traces on the flowers too.
Loving to grow flowers is not about chasing fashion,
but is inborn.
The first one I loved was spider plant,
planted in a distinctive flowerpot,
placed at a corner of the desk,
and in spare moments from reading, my eyes enjoyed its graceful, flowing look,
a flavor all its own.
I once read the lines "In the courtyard, plant bamboo where phoenixes perch;
in the pond, raise fish that transform into dragons,"
which could serve as a true portrait of this.
Nowadays, flowers and trees from north, south, east and west gather together,
in brilliant purples and reds, with countless forms and colors.
Every day I give the flowers devoted care,
and the flowers likewise nourish my body and mind.
In every ordinary season,
what they bring me is an extraordinary warmth and joy,
in a language others cannot understand,
letting me alone listen to the voice of the heart.
Zeng Guofan of the Qing Dynasty once said this:
flowers and plants share the fate of their owner; when flowers
and plants flourish vigorously, it must be a thriving household.
Though this saying may sound somewhat idealistic,
on careful thought it is not entirely wrong.
Imagine: a person,
seeing the flowers and plants he tends growing lushly every day, with that mood,
how could it ever be spoken of in the same breath as
the mood of opening one's eyes to see flowers and plants withered and fallen?
Even if flowers, plants and trees have little connection to their owner's fate,
their influence on people
should still be there,
and it must play a subtle, gradual role in a person's emotions!
So, growing flowers well
is the greatest wish of everyone who loves growing flowers,
and under this wish,
I will humbly ask others for advice,
then carefully explore on my own, diligently,
with all my heart, patiently and meticulously,
feeling cold before the flowers feel cold,
feeling warm after the flowers feel warm,
what I give is physical effort,
but what I harvest is joy and satisfaction of the spirit.
Growing flowers puts the emphasis on loving flowers,
and loving flowers values tending them with care.
Some people grow flowers for decoration,
yet know nothing of the habits of flowers,
understand nothing of the way to grow them,
either overwatering,
or neglecting their care,
or not knowing how to appreciate them.
They do not realize that flowers are beings with spirit,
just like "a beauty who is charming but lacks anyone to appreciate her."
Some people grow flowers to cultivate their inner state,
and every arrangement and touch is a private conversation with the flowers,
a communication between two hearts.
In this way, the flowers increasingly become the inner state of the grower.
In short, growing flowers is a process,
with the emphasis on tending and the value on appreciating,
and the withering and blooming of flowers is like the shifting moods of a person,
always needing care and adjustment.
The principle in this
is just like how books are not meant for display,
but for reading.
