What to Do When Gardenia Flower Buds Drop? Causes and Solutions
1. Adjust the fertiliser
(1) Specific cause: Gardenias like fertiliser, and using some during the flowering period is necessary. However, if raw fertiliser is used, or the concentration is too high, it can easily cause flower buds to drop.
(2) Solution: Stop fertilising for a period of time. Once the situation eases, you can continue using fertiliser, but choose fermented, fully decomposed fertiliser and strictly control the concentration.
2. Provide sufficient light
(1) Specific cause: If the plant stays in a dark environment for a long time, it cannot carry out photosynthesis, which causes bud drop.
(2) Solution: Place it somewhere that receives indirect light but not intense light, and the situation may ease.
3. Spray ferrous sulfate
(1) Specific cause: All nutrient elements are important, and iron deficiency may cause flower buds to drop.
(2) Solution: Spray an appropriate amount of ferrous sulfate aqueous solution at a concentration of 0.2% to 0.5%, which will effectively control flower bud drop.
4. Prune appropriately
(1) Specific cause: If it has not been pruned for a long time, the branches will become messy and dense, and they will consume a lot of nutrients. With insufficient nutrient supply, flower buds drop easily.
(2) Solution: Prune appropriately, cutting away all those branches that are too messy, too dense and aged.
5. Prevent and control pests and diseases
(1) Specific cause: Trouble from pests and diseases is also an important reason, and it can cause flower buds to drop on a large scale.
(2) Solution: Spray targeted pesticides for different types of pests and diseases, and improve ventilation.
