What to Do About Root Rot in Clematis? Cause Analysis and Treatment Methods
1. Water in Moderation
Cause: Many gardeners water their clematis very frequently, not realizing that overwatering can cause its leaves to wilt, its roots to rot, and can also affect its normal growth.
Solution: Control the amount of water given during normal care, and there is no need to be too frequent; just keep the soil moist. In addition, during the rainy season, provide appropriate shelter from rain, and if it does get rained on, take drainage measures promptly so that water does not remain in the potting soil.
2. Loosen the Soil Appropriately
Cause: If the soil it is planted in is not aerated, it cannot breathe properly. If this is combined with heavy watering and fertilizing, root rot can easily occur.
Solution: Loosen the soil appropriately, or replace it with loose, well-aerated soil. Only by ensuring the soil is sufficiently aerated can clematis grow normally.
3. Prevent and Treat Disease
Cause: Hot, humid, stuffy environments easily breed bacteria. If disease appears, clematis will be affected, the roots will be eroded and rot, and the leaves will turn yellow as well.
Solution: After discovering the disease, use medication promptly, and clean away all infected stems. After root rot occurs, take it out of the potting soil, cut off the rotted roots, and disinfect them to avoid a secondary infection, then simply replant it in clean potting soil.
