How should you deal with root rot in a mother of thousands (Kalanchoe daigremontiana)?
1. Scientific watering
Cause: Too much water makes the soil overly moist, and overly moist soil easily becomes waterlogged, which causes the roots to rot and also leads to yellowing leaves.
Solution: Control the watering frequency, reduce the amount of water given, and wait until the potting soil dries out before watering. Water only when dry, as this prevents root rot and is also better for its growth. After a mother of thousands develops root rot, promptly dig it out of the potting soil, cut off the rotted roots with scissors, then disinfect the roots, and once the wounds have dried, replant it.
2. Adjusting the temperature
Cause: Mother of thousands is not cold-tolerant. If the temperature is low in winter, it will be frostbitten, which leads to root rot, and the leaves will also turn dry and yellow.
Solution: Adjust the temperature appropriately. In winter, let it get some sunlight during the day. If the daytime temperature can be maintained, it will not be frostbitten. In addition, reduce the amount of water in winter; if the amount of water is not changed, its roots will likewise rot.
3. Preventing and treating pests and diseases
Cause: Once pests or diseases appear, they will harm the leaves and roots of the mother of thousands. After being attacked, the leaves turn yellow and the roots rot.
Solution: First observe which pest or disease it is, then spray with a suitable treatment for prevention and control. If it is caused by bacteria, antibiotics can be used to treat it.
