Many gardening enthusiasts love growing hydrangeas, after all, once they bloom, the colors are vibrant and colorful, and the petals on the same plant cluster together into blossoms, creating a lively and beautiful sight. So, do you know how to propagate hydrangeas from cuttings?

Before taking cuttings, you must first sterilize the propagation medium. The medium can be vermiculite or peat moss. You can mix peat moss and perlite in a 1:1 ratio.

Spray it with a potassium permanganate solution or a carbendazim solution to achieve sterilization and disinfection, then water it thoroughly and set it aside for later use.

Select healthy branches from the hydrangea plant. Generally, after flowering, use one section of a branch as the cutting. In the early budding stage, you can use semi-lignified branches for cuttings.

After that, you can cut off the lower leaves, or cut all the leaves in half, to prevent water loss.

Cut the base of the branch at a 45-degree angle, about 1 to 2 cm, which increases the surface area at the bottom of the branch, enhances its ability to absorb water, and improves the survival rate.

Insert the branch into the medium and that's it. Note that you should not use a large pot, as this can easily cause the branch to rot. You can use a seedling tray or a small pot.

After taking the cutting, place it in a shaded area and make sure to keep the medium moist. It will take about half a month to a month to root. However, during this period, avoid taking the branch out with your hands multiple times.

Once you learn how to propagate hydrangeas from cuttings, you'll never have to spend money buying them again, and you can still enjoy beautiful flowers.
