Yesterday Blue Demon told everyone a little story about annual and biennial flowers, and today Blue Demon has another little story to tell.
This little story that happened to someone else, I believe many flower lovers have experienced something similar, so let's listen together and see if you have ever done such a silly thing.
The main character of yesterday's story was Blue Demon's neighbor, and the main character of today's story that Blue Demon wants to tell is still this lovely neighbor. As it happens, she really loves flowers, or more accurately, she really loves buying flowers, hehe........
Here is what happened. Last winter, this neighbor came to Blue Demon's home to visit and found that Blue Demon had a pot of cyclamen blooming very well. She became very interested, but this time what interested her was not the flower, but Blue Demon's flower pot.
"Huh, this flower pot of yours looks just like the one I threw away before, and the flower seems to be the same one too. Did you just buy it?"
When she asked that, I remembered. Actually, this pot of cyclamen was not bought by Blue Demon, but picked up by Blue Demon.
One morning last summer, Blue Demon went to take out the trash and happened to meet the sanitation worker uncle from the village who collected garbage. In his garbage cart was this pot of cyclamen, but at the time this cyclamen was in a withered, dead state, with dry leaves still lying on the flower pot.
After asking, Blue Demon learned that he had collected it from the trash can, so Blue Demon asked for it. After taking it home and tipping it out to check, the cyclamen's root tuber was still quite good, so Blue Demon kept it, watered it in autumn, applied some fertilizer, and once winter came it started blooming like crazy.
After hearing Blue Demon finish telling the story of where this pot of cyclamen came from, this neighbor was dumbfounded.
"I saw that it was dead, so how did you pick it back up and bring it back to life, and it even bloomed so many flowers?"
Dear friends, do you also have this kind of question?
Actually, it is very simple. Cyclamen is an autumn-planted bulbous flower that likes a cool environment.
When the high summer temperatures arrive, cyclamen enters a dormant period, shown by the stems and leaves above ground withering and dying, while the underground root tuber enters dormancy. After the weather turns cool, the underground bulb will sprout again and begin to grow.
Many autumn-planted bulbous flowers have this characteristic, so do not assume they are really dead just because the above-ground part has died. Actually, they are just asleep, and you can wake them up when the temperature is suitable.
Here is a reminder for beginner flower lovers:
If the above-ground parts of your bulbous flowers such as lilies, gladiolus, and freesia wither in summer, then please keep the potting soil dry, or dig out the bulbs and store them. Do not casually throw them away, otherwise you will lose big!
