Leopard cats appear at Satoyama School: A shallow-mountain environmental evangelist leads children and farming friends in satoyama practice

Environmental evangelist in the shallow mountains | Leopard cats appear at Satoyama School, satoyama practice from children to farming friends

Walking up the gentle slope and turning onto the gravel path beside the road, an old house with black tiles, white walls, and a green wooden door suddenly comes into view, sitting spaciously and comfortably by the mountainside. Towering royal palms stand in front of the door, forever welcoming visitors -- this is "Satoyama School."

The name "Satoyama School" could not be more apt. This environmental education center, located in the shallow mountain area of Yuanli, Miaoli, echoes the United Nations' "Satoyama Initiative." This elegant old house was originally an abandoned old Catholic church, and now it has turned to environmental evangelism; just seeing its exterior brings a sense of peace and quiet. Around the old house, vegetation is lush, surrounded by vegetable plots, paddy fields, orchards, a small stream, and local farmers who have cultivated the land for generations.
