Such a useful Dendrobium, which also has another name "die-hard", can be grown on just a few pieces of bark or wood. Here's how.
1. Prepare materials
Just find some larger pieces of bark or wood, or leftover scrap wood boards from home renovation will do. First sun-dry the wood for a few days or soak it in a carbendazim solution for 20 minutes to sterilize.
2. Tie on the Dendrobium
Let the sterilized wood dry, then soak it wet again. Tie the Dendrobium stems onto the wood with cotton thread, plastic rope or wire - anything works.
3. Make a lazy-person watering bottle
Dendrobium likes moisture, so it's best to make a lazy-person watering bottle beside it. You only need a plastic bottle filled with water and a long shoelace, with the shoelace end placed on the wooden board. Remember the plastic bottle must be above the wooden board so water can be guided down.
4. Daily care of Dendrobium
Dendrobium can now be grown in both the south and the north, but in northern winters it's best kept indoors with heating. Normally avoid direct sunlight and mist frequently to keep it moist.
Besides growing it on bark or wooden boards as above, a tree stump also works. No need to dig - just tie the Dendrobium directly onto it with the roots close to the wood. The stump can be placed directly in a water basin, saving even the need to water.
With good temperature and humidity, Dendrobium can bloom from May to September. The flowering period is super long and the flowers are edible too. With so many flowers, one plant is enough for a plate of food.
