Once again it is the annual season when succulent lovers in the free-shipping zone turn pale at the mention of summer. Actually, before I started growing succulents, I never felt there was anything bad about summer; on the contrary, I quite liked it. Summer is the season when women show off their graceful figures, when they can wear all kinds of beautiful dresses. No matter where they go, women are the most striking scenery of summer.

It is only because I fell in love with succulents these past two years that I suddenly began to dislike summer, and I abruptly realized how hot Changzhou's summers are, and they keep getting longer, endlessly. Actually, summer has always been the same summer; it is just that people's preferences have changed.

Succulents in the free-shipping zone have a hard time getting through summer. The muggy weather is the chief culprit, but another main reason is that, with no experience whatsoever in getting through summer, I blindly took in many varieties that are difficult to keep through summer.

It must be admitted that some varieties are very hard to get through summer in the free-shipping zone. Don't look at how beautifully others grow them and assume you can do the same. Sometimes, choosing to give up and knowing what to let go of is also a kind of wisdom.

Echeveria lilacina

Xishi

Pansy

Echeveria purpusorum

Benba

I once saw a succulent lover comment that they had bought Laura 7 times and lost it 7 times. That is far too stubborn; there really is no need. There are so many beautiful succulents, so don't spend your limited energy on endless rot and black stem; it's not worth it.

Other people have a whole table of Orange Monroe and a whole table of Echeveria, and those look quite beautiful too. You have to do everything within your means. Do you really have to enshrine a succulent like a living Buddha? Isn't that exhausting?

White Chrysanthemum

Echeveria purpusorum

Mountain Rose

No matter the variety, as long as it has died twice, I absolutely will not buy it again. Some I won't buy again after dying just once. Certain succulents are born with the gene for black stem rot, and the title "sure to die in summer" is by no means unearned.

You have to trust nature's law of survival of the fittest and the survival of those suited to their environment. Whatever dies was surely not suited to the current care environment.

Lovely Rose

Mexican Snowball

Echeveria derenbergii

In today's society, people's minds are very restless; whatever is hot, they chase. The year before last, Moon Shadow was hot; last year, Peach Grove was hot; this year it has become Echeveria 'Mebina' that's hot; who knows what will be hot next year. In short, ever since I fell into the succulent pit, this hot trend and that hot trend have dazzled me. The succulents take turns on stage, and anyone with even slightly insufficient self-control will be stirred into restless action.

Fortunately I'm still all right, not letting the succulents gradually dazzle me. I suddenly realized that even entering the succulent pit requires a strong heart. Otherwise, Moon Shadow, Peach Egg, Echeveria 'Mebina', and Fairy Cups, how long can you keep following the trend?

Living in the free-shipping zone, don't become a variety collector. When you see that others have something, you want it too; when you see that others' plants are beautiful, you buy them too. You must know that without others' care experience and environment, having nothing but passion is not enough to grow succulents well. Growing succulents must proceed step by step, and you will reap more through the continuous accumulation of experience.

Apricot Swallow

Ryan's Sprite

Echeveria 'Gilong'

When I first entered the pit, if I saw a succulent die, I would agonize over it for ages. Now, no matter which pot of succulents dies, I am calm; if it's going to die, you can't keep it. To grow succulents well, I've used every skill in the book, short of going up to heaven and down into the earth. If it still insists on dying, that only shows my care environment is not suited to these varieties, and there is no need to force it to stay. Eliminating the ones that are difficult to care for really does save a lot of worry.

In my eyes, no plant is divided into expensive or common; don't artificially sort them into ranks and grades. Even the most ordinary plant will have its most dazzling day, for example the moss rose.

A potted plant, when you have cared for it for ten years and it has accompanied you for ten years, that bond cannot be bought with any amount of money.

Besides growing succulents, I also like bonsai and green plants. Succulents turn ugly in summer, and turn green in winter without sun. Bonsai and green plants do not; as long as they are pruned properly, they can maintain a perfect state all year round.

Bonsai is called "silent poetry, three-dimensional painting," and it better reflects the profoundness of Chinese art and culture.

Whether growing succulents or bonsai and green plants, it is a long-term process. Having only beautiful longings and a three-minute enthusiasm, then retreating when faced with setbacks, definitely won't work. You must move forward through constant exploration, accumulation, and letting go... only then will you reap rewards. Only by growing together with plants can you feel the wonder of life.

There are many pleasures in life, and my pleasure is gardening. In my spare time, I sit down, read a book, savor a cup of tea, and admire a pot of succulents, hoping time can slow down, and slow down even more...

Happiness is not about how many precious bonsai you own, how many Echeveria 'Mebina', how many Fairy Cups or old Peach Egg stems. Rather, it is that every potted plant you grow grows and becomes more beautiful day by day in your hands!

Happiness is not about how much wealth you possess, but about your passion for life and your affirmation of yourself, and having some things you enjoy, such as growing flowers, planting grass, and growing succulents, reading, writing, and listening to music, having a few close friends, and looking at a garden full of scenery... These are incomparably happy things.

Finally, a succulent lover asked, what variety is this climbing rose? It is called: Meilang Pearl, and it was bought at the local Xiaxi Flower and Plant Market in Changzhou.
