Most succulent growers will notice that as the growing time gets longer, the soil in the pot becomes harder and harder, and may even become compacted. When this happens, it is very likely to affect the growth of succulents, so how should we solve pot soil compaction and keep succulents from being affected? Here are a few little tips!
1. Different plants use different soils. To prevent pot soil compaction from affecting plant growth, we can choose to add some media to the soil. We can add bark or sawdust to the soil, or add vermiculite, ceramsite, and so on. This can increase the soil's air permeability and water permeability, and can also avoid the problem of soil compaction.
2. To prevent soil compaction, you can loosen the soil regularly. This little method is very simple. We usually loosen the soil for plants when planting flowers and plants, and this can effectively prevent pot soil compaction. If you find that the pot soil has already become compacted, loosen the soil promptly. It is best to choose to loosen the soil regularly, so that compaction will not occur.
3. Use less chemical fertilizer. In daily planting, we choose to use chemical fertilizer to add nutrients. But chemical fertilizer may cause soil compaction. You can appropriately choose organic fertilizer, fruit shells, and fruit peels. Not only can they slowly provide nutrients to plants, they can also loosen the soil, and the soil will not become compacted.
4. The soil of plants that are often watered with tap water will show compaction, because tap water contains various substances. If used frequently, it may cause pot soil compaction. Here is a very effective little method: you can choose to use tap water, but it needs to be placed in the sun to dry first. Or store it for a day before use. This effectively prevents and controls soil compaction.
