Introduction

Potted greenery is now an essential decorative element of home life. Keeping some flowers and plants at home brings many benefits: it beautifies the home and also lifts the spirits. "Flower Sound Potted Plant Diary, Issue 1079" introduces you to an extremely easy-to-grow vine.

Today's star

Many kinds of flowering vines have been introduced, but few can satisfy the needs of gardeners in both the south and the north. Bougainvillea, for example, is not cold-hardy and struggles to overwinter in the north; clematis is not heat-tolerant and is hard to grow in the south in summer. The flower introduced this time is the famous Chinese trumpet creeper (Campsis grandiflora), which is cold-hardy and heat-tolerant: in winter it can withstand more than ten degrees below zero, and in summer it does not fear the sun, so it can be grown in both the south and the north.

Chinese trumpet creeper

The Chinese trumpet creeper is fairly familiar to everyone, and can be seen in many places, often with flowers covering the branches, looking like a sea of blossoms, always making people stop to look or take photos. In fact, there are many varieties of trumpet creeper; the common ones are Chinese trumpet creeper and American trumpet creeper (Campsis radicans), plus their hybrid variety 'Galen', and there is also an African trumpet creeper, which is relatively rare and not attractive.

A very long flowering period

Vines generally have very long flowering periods, such as Madagascar jasmine, hoya, and bougainvillea, which can bloom continuously all year round, leaving people dazzled. The trumpet creeper's flowering period is also very long: it generally begins blooming in late spring and can continue until autumn arrives, lasting as long as half a year. It is an excellent material for greening and beautifying courtyards, and can decorate flower walls, fences, and so on. When it blooms, the courtyard becomes a garden.

It can also be grown in pots

Although the trumpet creeper is a large vine, growing it in a pot is completely fine. The larger the pot, the larger the plant, and vice versa. If the pot is smaller, it can only grow into a small vine; with attention to pruning, it becomes an upright shrub. Its habits are robust, and it has a certain tolerance to saline-alkali soil. It is not picky about soil and can be grown in ordinary garden soil. It is drought-tolerant and also likes moisture; whether given plenty of water or managed casually, it can grow very well.

Turn the balcony into a garden

Because of all these advantages, the trumpet creeper has become a veritable "internet-famous flower." Its flowers are funnel-shaped, bright red or golden yellow, vividly colored, and of high ornamental value. With thin bamboo supports it can be trained into various patterns, or through pruning be made into a hanging bonsai. It is very practical and beautiful, and has the reputation of being the "vine fairy, bride on the wall."
