Many novice gardeners killed lots of potted plants when they first started. Seeing a plant they had just bought die not long ago not only wastes money but also affects their mood. So why not try growing vegetables as potted plants? It saves money and looks good too.

There are many easy-to-grow vegetables. Below is a detailed explanation of how to grow them.

1. Taro

Taro, which looks very much like Alocasia (elephant ear), has very beautiful leaves once they grow large and can absolutely be kept as a decorative potted plant. Many households throw away sprouted taro they cannot finish eating. Once you learn this method, you can get a free potted plant.

First, put the already sprouted taro into a basin that does not leak water, with the pointed tip facing up, pour water into the basin until it covers half of the taro. Let it sit for a week and it will take root. Next, if using the soil culture method, just bury the taro in soil and water it regularly, and it will also grow beautiful leaves; moreover, with proper fertilizing, it can even grow new taro.

2. Sweet potato

Sweet potato is not only tasty, but making a small bonsai with it is also very cute. First find a beverage bottle, cut off the top, fill it with some water, put the pointed end of the sweet potato facing down, with half of it soaked in water. Then change the water every other day. After about seven days it will take root and grow leaves. At this point you can continue growing it in water, or plant it in soil. It is full of fun.

3. Scallion

Scallions are often used when stir-frying. If you find it troublesome to buy a few scallions every time, why not keep the ones you cannot finish eating in water? It not only looks good, but you can also use them when stir-frying. First cut off the scallion base and part of the green stems, then put them into a glass, add clean water to a height of 3 cm at the scallion roots, and be careful to keep the scallions upright. After that, place them on a balcony that gets sunlight, and you can see the scallions grow a little taller every day.

4. Celery

You probably did not expect this, but the cut-off celery root can also become a cute little potted plant. Just put the celery root into a glass bottle filled with clean water, prop it up with toothpicks, and keep the water covering about 3 cm of the root. Change the water once every two days, and in less than a week you can see green sprouts coming out.

5. Carrot

The slender, tall leaves of carrots look very lively too. First choose a carrot with sprouts at the root, then cut off the carrot top, and likewise fix it with toothpicks, place it in a glass bottle so that the bottom of the carrot stays 1 cm in water, or you can just put it in a dish. Change the water every day, and after it sprouts let it get some sunlight. Before long it will become a slender little potted plant.
