As soon as summer arrives, succulent growers at home start to get nervous one after another, and the whole person enters a state of alert. Whether it is watering or light, they strictly follow the secret tips found from various posts, for fear that with one careless move the succulent will simply die.

But there is no way around it. Who told succulents to be prone to black rot as soon as summer comes? Sometimes before you even find the problem, the succulents at home have died until only the pots are left. After all, when everyone first got into succulents, they all had expectations. Seeing a scene of black rot everywhere, no one can stand it.

Causes of withering and death

Actually, the reason for succulent black rot in summer is very simple, and that is a problem with watering. First of all, in summer you absolutely must not cut off water, otherwise the succulent cannot get enough water to maintain its own defense system, and in this way the succulent becomes more susceptible to fungal infection.

Of course, some people say, I did not cut off water. On the contrary, I even water the succulents from time to time, but in the end I still cannot escape the outcome of black rot. Why exactly is this?

In fact, the main reason most people's succulents die in summer is that after watering, if the water in the soil cannot be discharged in time, and combined with too-high summer temperatures and relatively high air humidity, the roots cannot breathe smoothly, and the plant's immunity drops greatly. In this way, the succulent becomes more prone to black rot.

A clever solution

Since the cause of black rot is that the roots come into contact with too much water, then if the water is not allowed to touch the roots, the succulent will not be prone to black rot. Of course, if you simply water, the water will inevitably seep to the bottom of the pot, causing water accumulation around the roots.

At this time, if you use a straw, punch a few holes in it, and pour water into it, then the water will seep into the surrounding soil, and of course the water flowing to the bottom of the pot will be reduced. This method can avoid succulent black rot and root rot to the greatest extent.

How to do it

1. First, prepare a relatively thick straw, and use scissors or other tools to punch a few small holes in the middle-lower part of the straw. The number of small holes can be adjusted specifically according to the size of the succulent pot;

2. Then insert the straw into the soil. Note that when inserting, the straw should be positioned away from the succulent's root area to avoid damaging the plant's fragile roots and stems;

3. Then use a curved-neck bottle to pour water into the straw. You can fill it directly all at once. Anyway, the amount of water the whole straw can hold is not much, and it will not cause overwatering of the succulent. About 5 straws' worth of water is enough for a pot around 10 cm;

4. After that, you will find that the soil in the succulent pot gradually becomes moist, but the soil will not become sticky and heavy. It is exactly the soil environment suitable for succulents to get through summer;

5. Of course, you still need to make some slight adjustments according to the size of the succulent pot. For example, for a larger pot, you can insert several more straws, and for succulents that have already entered dormancy, one straw's worth of water is enough.

Such a simple and practical straw trick, hurry up and learn it!!
