When your ambition still cannot support your dreams, all you can do is learn. Not a Beijing native, I have to work extra hard to live the life I want. On the road to realizing dreams you encounter all kinds of difficulties and pressure. Singing, dancing, parties, hiking, traveling, even crying for a while, none of it can relieve your troubles.

Ever since I fell in love with succulents, even a girl like me, wild as the wind, has finally been able to quiet down. Whenever I get a little free time I go wander around the flower market. I promise not to buy anything, but I absolutely never come home empty-handed. I especially enjoy a weekend morning after sleeping my fill: giving the succulents a bath, blowing the water droplets dry, then basking in the sun and taking all kinds of photos. I set the pots outside the south balcony one by one, carry them back in at noon, and move them out again when it cools down in the afternoon. Often, just after I have arranged them and looked my fill, five minutes later I wonder whether the sun has brought out prettier colors, so I run over and stare for ages again. Only when I get a little tired do I realize it is already four or five in the afternoon. Often in this kind of empty reverie, looking at the succulents growing more beautiful, I feel life is still quite wonderful. I must keep going, buy a house with a big terrace, just to give the succulents a sunroom. This dream will definitely come true within half a year.

Growing succulents is actually cultivating a state of mind; it pleases the eye and soothes the soul even more. Succulents teach us not to be impatient, that when the time comes they will naturally become beautiful. Growing succulents is like living life: whatever you put in, you will surely get back. Growing succulents also trains you to face the pain of loss calmly. It is not that you do not care, but that you learn to control your emotions. When loss inevitably happens, sorrow is meaningless. When you have them, you must care for them with your heart. Finally, let me end with a Buddha-like verse by Tsangyang Gyatso.

"Seeing and Not Seeing"

Whether you see me or not,

I am there, neither sad nor glad.

Whether you miss me or not,

The feeling is there, neither coming nor going.

Whether you love me or not,

Love is there, neither increasing nor decreasing.

Whether you follow me or not,

My hand is in your hand,

Never letting go, never forsaking. Come into my arms,

Or let me live in your heart -

Silent, in love, quiet, joyful.
