Moss rose (Portulaca grandiflora), although it is also called sun flower, its leaves are rather slender. The sun flower we usually grow is called large-flowered purslane. Although the leaves are different, the blooms are all very beautiful. Moss rose is very simple to grow, especially tough. You do not need to sow seeds or buy seedlings - just pinch off a few stems and you can grow many pots.

The super simple way to grow moss rose:

If a friend or relative has this flower at home, or if you find it in a suburban park, just take a few stems - you can take one stem of each color. Length does not matter, about 10 cm or so.

Moss rose grows fast. The more you prune it, the more shoots and branches it produces, so do not worry that pinching off stems will harm it.

After bringing them home, prepare small flower pots, or clear plastic drinking cups, paper cups, or lunch boxes - all work. Fill them with ordinary garden soil, add a small amount of leaf mold, then add one third sand.

Use a small stick or chopstick to poke a few holes in the potting soil, then insert the moss rose stems into them, water thoroughly, and place in a cool, ventilated spot without strong light.

After a week, the leaves stand upright - they root very easily. At this point you can water and sun them normally, and care for them as usual.

It grows like crazy and multiplies very quickly. It can be grown on an indoor balcony or outdoors. As long as there is plenty of sunlight, plus a little flower fertilizer or organic fertilizer, and you water when the soil is dry.

As long as there is sunlight and good ventilation, it will bloom countless flowers, blooming every day, and look absolutely beautiful!

Usually pinch out the growing tips and top it often, so it grows more side shoots and branches, and the plant shape becomes especially neat and attractive.

If you want to keep moss rose for a second year, in winter place it in a wind-sheltered, warm, sunny spot. As long as the temperature does not drop below 5°C, with normal care it will survive to the second year and keep blooming.
