The roses you planted still have not sprouted after more than ten days - what is going on? There are many reasons why seeds fail to sprout. If any one of these aspects is lacking - such as seed viability, temperature, humidity or air - it will be difficult for them to sprout. So when they do not sprout, you have to start working on the aspects listed above.

As for roses, their seeds have another characteristic: dormancy. In fact, this is not only true of rose seeds - the seeds of many crops have this trait. Take garlic, for example: it needs to go through a period of dormancy before being planted, and only then will it sprout. Rose seeds are the same. If freshly harvested seeds are sown directly, they will certainly not sprout either. You can wrap the seeds in newspaper and put them in a refrigerator at 4 degrees Celsius; after leaving them there for more than a month, take them out and sow them the following year. Otherwise, without going through dormancy and cold stratification, they will not sprout.

In addition, seed viability is also a major factor. Some seeds have already lost their viability due to improper storage, and at that point they will certainly be unable to sprout either. Therefore, the prerequisite for seed germination is still that the rose seeds have viability.

The way roses are planted is also another major factor in germination. For example, planting too deep or too shallow is not good for germination. If too deep, the seeds cannot breathe properly; if too shallow, they cannot make good use of moisture. Also, after sowing, try to keep the soil moist to help germination.

However, Science Agriculture would like to remind you here that when it comes to propagating roses, the main route is not seeds but asexual propagation. Seed propagation not only takes too long a growing cycle and grows slowly, but after planting it is also not conducive to maintaining the stability of flowering traits. Asexual propagation, by contrast, is different: propagating roses by cuttings is not only convenient, but after rooting the cuttings you can also obtain flower buds quickly.
