Fewer goods, higher prices: banana prices come back from the dead amid wind and rain | After half a month of clearing supply, farmers' hard fight shows camaraderie

Starting May 31, the Council of Agriculture launched a banana purchase mechanism, and within 15 days, a total of 1,462 metric tons of bananas were cleared. Just at this time, on the afternoon of June 14, a tropical depression entered Taiwan, China, bringing heavy rain to the Kaohsiung-Pingtung area. As of noon today (June 15), the highest accumulated rainfall in Pingtung was 436 mm.

Under the dual impact of man-made supply clearing and heavy rain, banana prices rose noticeably. According to statistics from the Taipei fruit and vegetable auction market, today's banana arrivals were 55 metric tons, much less than the usual seventy or eighty metric tons. The top price for premium bananas was 31 yuan per kg, while the price for lower-grade bananas was also 16 yuan per kg.

Amid wind and rain, with fewer bananas arriving and prices rising, banana prices finally came back from the dead.
