Snap off a rose branch and graft it onto a tree, and the blooms will be multi-colored and bigger than a baby's face
Grafted roses
When we go to the park or look at the roses grown by the experts, the branches are thick and strong, looking like seedlings that are decades old, and the flowers still bloom bigger than a face, which is simply enviable to death
Actually, these roses are about the same age as the ones at your home. Not only do they bloom more than yours, but the blooms are also bigger. What is even more impressive is that their flowering period can last 1-2 months!
Some can even produce flowers of several different colors, blooming densely like hydrangeas
Actually, these are all artificially grafted roses. The upper part is the rose, and the lower part is the rootstock. The rootstock is generally made from Banks' rose branches or wild rose branches
Grafted roses retain the advantages of the rootstock and are also far from the soil surface, reducing the risk of pests and diseases. They bloom more and for longer. It looks very complicated, but it is actually just like taking cuttings, very easy to do. Let's learn together~
Rose grafting method
1. Choose the rootstock
Choose a Banks' rose branch or wild rose branch at least 40 cm long and the thickness of a finger. If it has roots, even better, and you can graft it directly in the ground
2. Prepare the scion
The scion is the rose branch that needs to be grafted. Choose a vigorous bright green branch grown in the current year. At least 5 cm is enough, and it is best to have 1-2 bud points on it
Remove all the leaves and thorns, and distinguish the top from the bottom
At a position about 2 cm from the lower part of the scion, prepare to cut the grafting interface
Cut at an angle, exposing the white inner stem
After cutting the interface, it is best to place it in clean water or a carbendazim solution to avoid drying out
3. Cut an opening in the rootstock
Choose a spot on the cross-section of the rootstock and prepare to cut the grafting interface. The width of the grafting interface should match the thickness of the scion
The main thing is to cut through the thickness of the bark. Be careful not to tear the bark. The length of the cut should match the length of the cut on the scion
4. Complete the grafting
Insert the rose scion into the rootstock so that the two interfaces overlap
Wrap the bark of the rootstock back over it
Then wrap it tightly and secure it with plastic film or soft tape
If you want to quickly grow a rose tree crown, you can graft several places on the rootstock. First peel off a piece of rose bark with a bud
Cut a T shape into the rootstock, peel it open, insert the rose bark with the bud, expose the bud, and finally wrap it tightly with plastic film or soft tape in the same way
5. Planting
The grafted rootstock can be inserted directly into moist flower soil and placed in a shady place to avoid strong sun. Keep it moist. It will take root in about 15 days. You can also put a plastic bag over the grafting site to retain moisture
When the rose branch sprouts, it means the grafting succeeded; if the branch turns black and wrinkles, it means it failed
Aftercare after grafting
After the graft sprouts, it can be exposed to the sun. Grafted roses are even easier to care for. When planted in the ground, they hardly need any attention. For potted plants, the flower pot should be chosen according to the size of the rootstock's root system, and there is no need to use too large a pot
If you want the rose tree to bloom big and frequently, you can add some strong fertilizer, such as fish intestines, chicken manure, cow and sheep manure, etc. Then you will not have to worry about burning the roots or attracting pests
