White champaca is easy to grow and loves to bloom; plant one at home and the whole house fills with fragrance

Although there are more and more choices for growing flowers nowadays, Huahua still prefers classic varieties. If Huahua were to pick the one with the most elegance, it would be the white champaca, pure white and refined, with a unique fragrance that makes you love it no matter what!

Growing Flowers Complete Guide
Few people grow white champaca now. Huahua remembers that when she was little, every courtyard had one, and once it bloomed, the whole house was filled with drifting fragrance. I wonder if any flower friends still grow one at home now
In the season when white champaca blooms, there are still elderly people out selling the flowers, strung into a chain with thread or wire, which you can hang on yourself~

Maybe trends also go in cycles. When we have seen all the lush blooms, we return again to the old aesthetics. Plant a white champaca
1. White champaca propagation methods
White champaca cannot be propagated by cuttings. Grafting and layering are generally used, and the process is fairly complicated. Flower friends with the right conditions can give it a try
Grafting method: the rootstock is usually a 2-3 year old magnolia, Michelia figo, or magnolia tree. In May-June, graft white champaca branches onto the rootstock, tie them securely with plastic film, and care for them normally
Layering method: it is best to use a white champaca over 3 years old, choosing a thick, strong branch 1-2 years old from the upper part. The branch should be longer than 15 cm. Girdle 3/4 of the bark at 5 cm from the end of the branch, spray with carbendazim solution to disinfect after peeling, then wrap it with slightly moist soil and fix it at the peeled position
Spray water to keep the soil moist. After about 10 days, you can cut into the branch position under the soil, nicking it a little each week. After 2 months of this, cut the branch through; by then it has basically rooted in the soil and can be planted directly
Flower friends who find the two propagation methods above too troublesome should just buy seedlings. White champaca seedlings are not expensive now, but you must distinguish them clearly
White champaca care
Growing Flowers Complete Guide
White champaca grows slowly. Many flower friends simply buy seedlings over 1 year old to grow. Everyone says white champaca is delicate, but once you figure out the care pattern, it can be grown for decades without any problem!
1. What soil to use for white champaca
For a tree-like flower like white champaca, it is best to plant it in relatively firm garden soil mixed with leaf mold. Use a ceramic or porcelain pot, which has good breathability
2. How to water white champaca
White champaca is fairly sensitive to water quality, so it is best to use clean tap water that has been left to settle before watering. It likes water but fears waterlogging, so do not water too much each time. Spray-style watering is recommended, as it not only cleans the leaves but also lets the leaves and branches "drink" water
3. Can white champaca be exposed to the sun
White champaca likes light but fears sunburn, so it is best to place it in a bright spot at home. In summer, pay attention to shading. It can get light before 10 a.m., and after 10 a.m. it is better to shade it or move it to a cool place indoors
4. Yellow leaves and bud drop in white champaca
White champaca sold at flower markets generally uses southern clay soil. This soil is very sticky. When flower friends first bring it home, they usually keep it indoors with insufficient ventilation, and on top of that the potting soil is not breathable and watering turns into waterlogging. Over time, yellow leaves and root rot set in, and the white champaca does not live long
Once you buy a white champaca planted in clay soil, wash the roots first when you get home, being careful not to damage the roots. After drying, replant it in breathable garden soil mixed with leaf mold, and then it can be kept at home
If you do not want to wash the roots and change the soil, it is best to keep the newly bought white champaca in a ventilated courtyard or on a terrace, control water appropriately, and once you master the pattern it can be grown well
5. How long does white champaca bloom
White champaca mainly blooms in summer and autumn. It is not cold-hardy in winter and needs warmth. With proper care, it can also bloom in a heated room. Grafted white champaca may need to grow to more than 50 cm before blooming, while layered plants bloom a little earlier
The flowering period of white champaca is long-lasting. The buds can be picked and strung together with needle and thread, hung at the bedside to calm the mind and aid sleep, or carried with you. No one dislikes the fragrance of white champaca~
