Petunia is a flower with many color varieties, its colors are very beautiful, and it blooms to fill the whole pot. These flowers are very popular in many flower shops now and very many people buy and grow them, but many flower lovers always fail when they try to get a full pot of blooms. Why is that? Don't worry, below we will explain how to get petunias to bloom into a full pot!

1. Soil

Petunias have roughly the same soil requirements as other plants; they also like slightly acidic soil, and drainage and breathability must be ensured. For the potting soil, simply mix leaf mold and sandy soil. You can also grow them in plastic hanging pots, but only one plant per pot, then place it in a bright spot on the balcony, preferably in diffused light. For the growing medium, you can also mix leaf mold and garden soil in a 5:4 ratio. The pH should not exceed 6.2, and should not be lower than 5.0. If the pH exceeds 6.6, it will weaken the plant's ability to absorb iron and turn the leaves yellow. In addition to this, heavy clay and hydrochloric acid soil cannot be used for mixing.

2. Watering

If you run into a dry season, you need to water more. Petunias prefer a moist growing environment and are afraid of dryness and waterlogging. From spring to autumn, water frequently; as soon as you see the potting soil turning pale and dry, that means it is time to water. Keeping the soil half dry and half moist is best. Too much water easily causes root rot. Also, friends in the north should add a little ferrous sulfate to get the full-pot effect, because northern soil tends to be alkaline, so this prevents the soil from becoming alkaline.

3. Avoid rainwater

In summer, petunias are in their peak growing season and need supplemental water. Especially in hot weather, you should keep watering in the morning and evening and must not let the soil dry out. Rainy seasons affect the growth of petunias; the stems and leaves tend to grow leggy, and the flowers easily fade or rot.

4. Pest prevention

In winter, indoor potted flowers are prone to aphids and scale insects, so attention should be paid to prevention and control. In this situation, never spray pesticide to kill them, because the chemical action will affect the growth of petunias. After discovering pests, you can wipe them off with a cloth, then disinfect with potassium permanganate, and place the plant in a ventilated and breathable environment; this can also reduce the occurrence of pests.

The above are the methods for getting petunias to bloom into a full pot. After meeting the above conditions, be sure to remember that if the plant has pests, you absolutely must not spray it with chemicals. Petunias are very sensitive to chemical damage, and some substances in the chemicals will damage the petunia's plant and root stems.
