If your bowl lotus only grows leaves year after year without blooming, you must have bought fake seeds.

Every year in June and July of summer, it is the blooming season for bowl lotus. If planted in time and cared for properly, you can enjoy blooming lotus flowers right at home.
But many people's bowl lotus plants only grow leaves without blooming. The most common causes of this phenomenon are the following three: insufficient light means no blooming. Bowl lotus loves light, and daily light exposure should be no less than five hours, otherwise it is relatively difficult to bloom. Although many home-grown bowl lotus plants get enough light hours, they are mostly sunned through glass, so they do not bloom as easily as those grown outdoors. It is best to let them bask in the open sun during the blooming period, which makes them more likely to bloom, burst into a full pot of flowers, and is simple too.
Too much fertilizer means no blooming. If you bought the right bowl lotus rhizomes, as long as you are not growing them in overly poor soil or in plain water culture, most will bloom; the only difference is that flower quality varies from high to low. If the bowl lotus leaves grow very well, lush green, and can also stand upright, but it just will not bloom, it may be caused by too much fertilizer. Especially too much nitrogen fertilizer, which causes only leaf growth without blooming.
In this situation, you can change the water several times, once every three or four days, to wash away excess nutrients in the mud and encourage blooming. Fake bowl lotus does not bloom. There are many counterfeit bowl lotus plants on the market. If the bowl lotus you bought has small leaves that do not stand upright, or leaves that are especially large like the lotus in a pond, it may be fake. Fake bowl lotus is very difficult to bloom and can only be grown as a foliage plant.
The leaves of a real bowl lotus are not very large, and it will grow flower buds once three or four leaves stand upright. The kind of bowl lotus that only grows leaves without blooming is 80 percent likely to be fake, with especially large leaves that also stand very upright, like ordinary vegetable lotus or ornamental lotus, not bowl lotus. This kind of lotus is very difficult to bloom in a small flower pot, so just enjoy its leaves.
