I am based in Qingdao, Shandong. I got into this hobby last spring, buying small seedlings from a certain online marketplace, a whole patch of green. As a clueless girl, I actually thought they looked quite beautiful. Looking back now, it feels really funny. Although the ones I grow are all common varieties, I still put in just as much care. I fixed an iron frame onto the clothes-drying rack outside the window so the succulents could get the best outdoor growing conditions in spring and autumn.

Thanks to Qingdao's oceanic climate, in the year since I got into this hobby, the succulents have only ever been troubled by mealybugs, with no other disease outbreaks, so I have only used mealybug treatments, from sprays to small white pills, exploring step by step! Last summer, the succulents lost to black rot could be counted on two hands. From last autumn until now, only one Echeveria 'Snow Lotus' mysteriously passed away, and all the other succulents are still alive and well!

Outdoor growing started from Qingming Festival. For the past 4 weeks, it has rained every weekend, and the forecast says it will rain again this week. Because there is no rain cover, the succulents have generally lost some color, and the peach eggs have all gotten thinner. To prevent black rot, I used carbendazim in between, giving the succulents a boost to fight off all kinds of pathogens! Now let's start with ID photos of some of the succulents. They are all common varieties, showing off in front of all you experts, please bear with me!

These are the first batch of succulents I bought last year. So ugly, but except for that little red-clothed one that passed away, all the others are thriving under my care. So lucky!

First birthday keepsake!

Now let's start with the newly taken close-ups!

Fully colored Echeveria 'Shoyan', bought in early winter last year. It hibernated on the balcony all winter, getting leggy and green. After Qingming Festival this year, I started the outdoor growing mode, and in just one week it turned completely red. Stunningly beautiful!

One photo isn't enough, here's another.

A big pot of String of Coins, giving off a Medusa vibe haha

Echeveria 'Orange Monroe', bought last winter, grew a lot after outdoor growing in spring.

Echeveria 'Bitao', good genetics, never lost color even on the balcony in winter.

Echeveria 'Sunset Cloud', little fairy!

A group arrangement, blindly bought during a certain online marketplace livestream. Some weren't cheap, but they were so small, so I just arranged them in one pot, and surprisingly it looks great!

A little Echeveria 'Sunset Cloud'.

Sedum 'Little Beauty', the fighter jet among common varieties. In one year, from 1 small seedling to a full pot. Easy to grow and inexpensive!

Here's a top view.

Echeveria 'Ruby', blooms gloriously with just a bit of sunlight, easy to fill a pot. In one year, from one small seedling to a full pot, and this spring I split it into two pots.

The other pot from the split.

This is how it looked before splitting in early winter last year

One of the veterans, pot is full.

Echeveria 'Dance of the Sunset Cloud', why do I feel the sun-exposed color is a bit dark...

Echeveria 'Chihuahua', always in a bun shape, never disappoints me.

Echeveria 'Rainbow Candy', just looking at it makes me want to eat it.

Sedum 'Mingyue', sounds the same as my good friend's name. I'm thinking of giving this pot to her in the future.

Great form!

Echeveria 'Eiger Rose', wins by its shape.

Echeveria 'Allen', currently in a malnourished stage, I'm going to fatten it up!

This one taken on the balcony in winter is super beautiful, right!

Echeveria 'Blue Stone Lotus', I bought 2 pots of the same two heads, but unfortunately the other pot isn't growing well!

I especially love taking photos from this angle!

Echeveria 'Guanghan Palace', it used to be super beautiful, but after the farina got rubbed off it just..

Monroe 2, got rained on 4 times in 4 weeks, all the color faded.

Echeveria 'Sasa Queen', such a perfect specimen.

Echeveria 'White Princess Lotus', can you tell it's two put together?

String of Coins.

Crayon or Xiaomi Star?

Monroe 3, this variety handles summer without any pressure

Speaking of Monroe, I have to mention this old friend of mine. It's because of her that I fell in love with Monroe!

Echeveria 'Diyuan Dance'? This pot got so rained on that it's no longer closed up, but it actually photographed with a dreamy feel. So magical

Sedum 'Little Beauty', couldn't wait for them to grow big, so I put 3 together

View the world from a different angle

Sasa, why do I feel it's gotten thinner?

Lily of the Valley succulent, the color is gorgeous, supposedly fragrant

Newly bought Echeveria 'Allen', so thin......

Echeveria 'Bitao', is it sunburned, completely different from the other two pots

This is how it looked before

Echeveria 'Tia', Pansy, condition isn't great, no close-up

Echeveria 'Snow Rabbit', hasn't reached peak condition, and no ID photo either

Peach Egg, I have many pots, special praise for this one. Also frequently rained on, only this one has stayed plump

Enjoy from a different angle

This one is not bad either

Echeveria 'Cheese', grew thin

Peach Egg

Peach Egg

Still

Same variety, but color and condition are also different

Still the same, this one is in an asthma pot, too much breathability plus I don't water it much, so it's getting smaller and smaller

This one too, been here half a year and just won't grow

Lithops 'Rimmed', finished shedding its skin

Lithops 'Imperial Jade', like a gold ingot

Want my little heart?

A bunch of Lithops 'Mrs. Li', still young

Rose, no longer in fully closed state now

Mountain Rose, small and cute

Peach, buying pots out of OCD

Echeveria 'Qiluo'

Echeveria 'Dance of the Sunset Cloud'

Coral Beads

Echeveria 'White Moon Shadow'

Echeveria 'Ice Sister', ethereal and otherworldly

Laurie or Luo Qi? Whatever, as long as it stays beautiful

Cream Peach

Sugar

Moon Shadow

Grape, just won't color up

3 brothers, bought from a local greenhouse, way too expensive

3 pots of Baby Fingers, all growing differently

Fingers

One big Finger, ironically not as beautiful as the small ones

Pink Bean? When I bought it last winter all the leaves fell off, now it's recovered to this

Veteran succulent, forgot its name, lost a lot of leaves, and stems have grown out

Veteran Iceberry hybrid

Berry, got a bit blackened from the sun earlier, but actually became beautiful after the rain

An excellent free gift, suspected fasciation

Still her

A pot of leaf-propagated Sedum 'Yellow Beauty', String of Pearls, and a few small succulents I hadn't gotten around to planting yet, fallen leaves and small heads, all crowded together with a unique charm.

Finally, a few family photos

The ones getting special care

This basket too, my beloved ones

There's really no room outside, so I can only put a few pots between the windowsill and the basket

The Peach Eggs

I'm planning to give up on this basket, varieties I don't really like, planning to have my mom take them home to grow

This basket too, maybe the genetics aren't great, grown for so long and still won't color up, so since outdoor growing started this year I haven't watered them at all, relying on heaven, also planning to give to my mom!
