In recent years, gummosis in fruit trees has been occurring frequently, and trees such as peach, apricot, plum and cherry have been hit especially hard. It not only weakens tree vigor and affects fruit yield and quality, but in severe cases can also cause the whole tree to wither and die, making it one of the biggest headaches for fruit growers. Today Yezi will introduce the control methods for fruit tree gummosis.

Improve the soil

Applying more microbial agents can improve the soil, increase its looseness and its water- and fertilizer-holding capacity, making it more suitable for crop growth. At the same time, microbial agents can also inhibit pathogenic bacteria in the soil and improve crop resistance, thereby achieving the effect of preventing various diseases.

Build up soil fertility

Gummosis is most severe on fruit trees that are old and weak in vigor, so decomposed organic fertilizer and various trace element fertilizers should be applied reasonably to build up soil fertility, make the fruit trees grow more robustly, and avoid the attack of diseases.

Avoid wounds

When pruning fruit trees, if a relatively large wound is made, apply 5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture promptly to help the wound heal and reduce infection by pathogens. Prevention of stem-boring pests should also be strengthened to eliminate the occurrence of gummosis.

Remove the source of disease

Diseased and dead branches and leaves should be collected and burned promptly. In early spring, scrape off the diseased spots on the trunk surface in time, and apply 402 disease-resistant agent at 50 times dilution to the wound, then apply Bordeaux mixture for protection. You can also directly apply 5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture to control gummosis.

Chemical control:

For fruit trees with severe gummosis, spray 402 disease-resistant agent at 300 times dilution before bud break in spring. For peach, apricot and plum trees with heavy gumming, spraying 5 degrees lime sulfur mixture once in spring gives a good preventive effect. If other diseases occur during the growing season, also combine their control with spraying the branches and trunk for protection.
