How do you save an asparagus fern with root rot? Here are a few practical remedies

There are many causes of root rot in asparagus fern (Asparagus setaceus): if it is caused by too much or too frequent watering, then control the amount of water and do not water too much. If it is caused by over-fertilizing, then reduce the amount of fertilizer and do not fertilize frequently. If it is caused by low temperatures, then raise the temperature appropriately. If it is caused by not repotting for a long time, then repot once every 2-3 years.

1. Reduce watering

Cause: Watering the asparagus fern too much or too often in normal care easily leads to waterlogging, and long-term waterlogging causes the roots to rot.

Solution: Control the amount of water and do not water too much; too much water causes waterlogging. Once root rot is found, take it out promptly, cut off the rotted roots and replant it.

2. Reduce fertilizing

Cause: Applying too much or too frequent fertilizer to the asparagus fern will cause root rot.

Solution: Reduce the amount of fertilizer, fertilize moderately, and do not fertilize too frequently; applying a suitable amount of diluted nitrogen fertilizer is enough.

3. Increase the temperature

Cause: Winter temperatures are generally quite low, and in some regions they are extremely low; when the temperature is low it is very prone to cold damage, and after being frozen it easily develops root rot.

Solution: Raise the temperature appropriately in winter, preferably keeping it at 5-10°C, or simply place it indoors to grow.

4. Repot in time

Cause: If it is not repotted for a long time, the root system of the asparagus fern will fill the pot, and after a long time waterlogging will appear; once waterlogging occurs, it easily leads to root rot.

Solution: Repot once every 2-3 years; this not only prevents root rot but also benefits its growth.
