What causes root rot in lotus
1. Fertilizer burn
Cause: Fertilizing lotus too frequently in daily care will cause fertilizer burn, which then leads to root rot. Do not apply fertilizer that is too concentrated either, as this will also cause root rot.
Solution: Control the amount of fertilizer applied, and appropriately reduce the frequency of fertilizing. Follow the principle of applying light fertilizer frequently; applying a little diluted liquid fertilizer in daily care is enough.
2. Waterlogging
Cause: Waterlogging is the most common cause of root rot. If the usual watering amount is too large and water accumulates, the roots of the lotus can easily become rotten.
Solution: Drain the standing water from the potting soil promptly. In addition, control the amount when watering normally and avoid waterlogging as much as possible. Just keep the potting soil slightly moist; do not let it become too wet.
3. Pests and diseases
Cause: After pests and diseases appear, they may harm the roots; corroding the roots will lead to root rot.
Solution: Once pests and diseases are found, remove them promptly, and you can combine this with spraying an appropriate treatment for control. In addition, take the lotus out of the potting soil, cut off the rotten parts and disinfect them, then replant it.
4. Poor water quality
Cause: If the water used for watering is of poor quality, it will easily breed bacteria. Combined with a moist environment, the bacteria will multiply quickly, and after harming the roots they will cause root rot.
Solution: When watering, use clean water. Do not water with water that contains bacteria or has already grown moss.
