How to rescue a peony with root rot? Learn these methods and you can still save it

There are many causes of root rot in peonies: if it is caused by excessive watering, then water reasonably, and it is best to wait until the soil becomes dry before watering. If it is caused by root rot disease, then promptly cut off the diseased roots and disinfect them, and fertilize appropriately to increase disease resistance. If it is caused by too much fertilizer, then fertilize in moderation, and do not fertilize too much or too frequently.

1. Reduce watering

Cause: The peony has fleshy roots and is relatively afraid of waterlogging, so do not water it too much, and even more so do not give it heavy watering. Once water accumulates in the potting soil, it will very easily cause root rot.

Solution: Water reasonably, and wait until the soil becomes dry before watering. Do not water too much or too frequently. In addition, during the rainy season, take care to shelter it from rain appropriately and promptly take drainage measures.

2. Prevent and control root rot disease

Cause: If pathogens or nematodes invade through wounds on the peony, they will very easily harm the already injured roots. Root rot disease will make the roots turn black and rot, affecting its normal growth.

Solution: Once discovered, promptly cut off the diseased roots and disinfect them. In addition, fertilize appropriately to increase its disease resistance.

3. Reduce fertilizing

Cause: Many flower growers think that giving peonies more fertilizer will make them grow faster, but this is actually not the case. If the amount of fertilizer is too large, root rot will occur.

Solution: Fertilize in moderation, and do not apply too much fertilizer. During flower bud differentiation and bud formation, applying an appropriate amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is enough. No additional fertilizing is needed at other times. If the amount of fertilizer applied is large, increase the amount of watering so that the fertilizer is flushed out as quickly as possible.
