Control Flowering Time at Will - Just Do These Steps

When growing flowers, gardeners always hope the flowers will bloom according to their own wishes. In fact, gardeners can control the flowering time of flowers according to conditions such as climate, temperature and humidity.
1. Lotus
Lotus mostly blooms from June to August. To make it bloom at National Day, you can use early-flowering varieties that take only about 50 days from planting to blooming. Repot the tubs a second time in mid-July, and it will bloom at National Day.
2. Chrysanthemum
Chrysanthemum is a short-day plant and only differentiates flower buds under short-day conditions. Therefore, the flowering period can be controlled by controlling day length. First grow the plants strong; when the young shoots reach 9-12 cm, give only 9-10 hours of light per day, and cover the plants with black cloth or black plastic film for the rest of the time. After about 30-40 days of treatment, the chrysanthemum can form flower buds. After that, remove the cover and strengthen fertilizer and water management.
3. Camellia
Temperature regulation can be used to promote or delay flowering. To delay flowering, choose late-flowering varieties. Before storing, the whole plant should be wrapped with straw covering for cold protection and placed in a 2°C-3°C cold storage, where it should receive about 6 hours of weak light each day; this can achieve the goal of delaying flowering. For spring-flowering varieties, once the low-temperature requirement is met, flowering can be advanced simply by raising the temperature.
4. Tree Peony
To make it bloom early for Spring Festival, choose varieties that bloom early and readily. For 5-6 year old plants with strong growth, after leaf fall, pot the tree peony, trying not to damage the root system, place it in a spot with low temperature, fertilize once, and then move it into a greenhouse at about 25°C room temperature. Spray water on the plants 5-6 times a day; after leaves emerge, spray only the branches and trunk. In this way, the flowering period can last about 20 days. If you want to delay the normal flowering period of the tree peony, you can use cold storage to extend its dormancy period. Keep the temperature above 0°C, and there should be weak light indoors, with 3-4 hours of exposure per day.
5. Poinsettia
Poinsettia is a typical short-day plant, so the flowering period can be controlled by adjusting the length of light exposure. For example, to make it bloom at National Day, start in early August and treat it with short days for about 40 days, and it will show beautiful red bracts in late September.
6. Azalea
Azalea differentiates flower buds in autumn. To make it bloom in winter, move it to a greenhouse for cultivation, keep the temperature at 20°C-25°C, and frequently spray water on the branches and leaves. In this way, it can produce abundant flowers in 1.5 months.
