Dudleya belongs to the genus Dudleya in the Crassulaceae family. Its stem is thick and short, and it gradually elongates as it grows. The leaves are densely arranged in a rosette pattern, and the plant diameter can grow quite large. The leaves are sword-shaped with pointed tips, and the leaf surface has rather indistinct raised marks; along the leaf from tip to base, there is a white powdery coating. Habits: Dudleya prefers a warm, dry environment with plenty of sunlight. It is not cold-tolerant, tolerates partial shade and drought, and fears waterlogging and intense direct sun. It has a dormant period in summer.
Light: It needs to receive sufficient sunlight for the leaf color to become vivid and for the plant shape to be more compact and attractive. Too little sunlight makes the leaf color pale, the leaf arrangement loose, and the leaves elongated. Dudleya is actually a very easy variety to grow. Apart from paying attention to appropriate shading in summer, it can be given full sun in all other seasons.
Watering: During the summer dormant period, give little or no water; heavy watering combined with high temperatures will cause root rot. The dormancy is not very obvious, but because of the reduced water, the leaves will become relatively thin. In winter, if the temperature can stay above 0 degrees, normal watering is fine; below 0 degrees, watering must be stopped, otherwise the plant is prone to frost damage and root rot. At midday when the temperature is suitable, you can give a little water around the edge of the pot away from the plant's roots. Never mist or give a heavy watering, as water remaining in the leaf center for too long can easily cause rot. After temperatures rise in spring, you can gradually resume normal watering. Soil mix: Use a potting soil of peat mixed with granular materials such as coal cinders and river sand, and lay clean granular river sand on the soil surface. The mix should be primarily breathable.
Fertilizing: Dudleya is a large plant. Depending on its growth, it can be repotted once every one to two years, and the pot diameter can be 1~2 cun larger than the plant diameter, which promotes plant growth. The medium must be dry before watering, and a slow-release fertilizer can be applied.
