No matter how easy a flower is to grow, using fertile, loose, airy, nutrient-rich soil will definitely make it grow better than using plain garden soil alone, but nutrient soil costs money. This kind of soil just needs to be dug up outside, it is nutritious and makes flowers thrive.

Leaf mold, also called humus soil, is formed after plant leaves and twigs are decomposed and fermented by microorganisms in the soil. It counts as a natural nutrient soil and is also a commonly used soil in flower and tree cultivation. Leaf mold is loose in texture, with good water permeability and air permeability, and it retains both water and fertilizer. Moreover, leaf mold is full of pores, so with long-term use you do not need to worry about the potting soil becoming compacted. It also contains organic matter, humic acid and a small amount of vitamins, so it has certain nutrients and is an ideal good soil for growing flowers.

Usually, when you go to the mountains or a park, wherever there are some tall trees, you can dig up some of this dark brown soil with leaves in it underneath; if leaf mold is really hard to find, then we can also make some leaf mold ourselves, and the method is very simple:

1. Find some tall trees by the roadside and go pick up some leaves;

2. Cut these leaves into smaller pieces, then fill a bucket with some garden soil, mix them together, and add some water to make it moist;

3. You can also add some pomelo peel or orange peel, which can effectively remove the odor;

4. Put the leaf mold in a place with sunlight and high temperature. During this fermentation process, you can water it once or twice with rice washing water to keep it moist. In summer, fermentation can be completed in about 2 months.

Later, when repotting or potting up your container plants, take it out and sun it thoroughly and it can be used directly for growing flowers, working 100 times better than the nutrient soil you pay for.
