3 common household items that make plant cuttings root quickly, the 2nd one we use every day

Cuttings are a commonly used method for propagating some flowers and plants, and seeing your own flowers and plants succeed from cuttings is a very fulfilling thing. However, some flowers and plants are difficult to root when propagated from cuttings, which makes some folks lose confidence in taking cuttings. Today, Xiaojingzhi Life will introduce two rooting wonder tools to everyone. Using these two "wonder tools" to root the cuttings before potting them up greatly improves the survival rate of cuttings.
1. Sponge
1. Find discarded black sponge (white also works, but black blocks light and is better for rooting), cut it into 3 x 2 cm squares, then poke a hole in the middle of each square, and insert the cutting you want to propagate into the hole in the sponge.
2. Put the cutting and sponge into a plastic bottle with about 2 cm of water in it, then place it in a ventilated spot that receives scattered light.
3. After about 20 days you will see the cutting has rooted. At this point, cut open the plastic bottle, take out the cutting together with the sponge and pot it up. The survival rate is very high.
2. Paper towel
Plants such as camellia and bougainvillea do not root easily from cuttings. You can first use the air layering method, using a paper towel to encourage rooting, and then propagate by cuttings. The specific method is as follows:
1. First choose the branch you want to propagate. At the position where it will be cut later, use a utility knife to girdle it by about 1 cm, then use a cotton swab dipped in rooting powder mixed with water to apply it to the girdled position.
2. Wrap two layers of paper towel around the girdled position of the branch, then wrap a layer of plastic wrap around the outside, tie both ends tightly, then use a syringe pierced into the plastic wrap to inject clean water into the paper towel to moisten it. After injecting, poke a few small holes, then wrap another layer of black plastic bag outside to block light.
3. After about one month, roots will grow at the girdled position. At this point, cut off the branch at the girdled position and pot up the cutting.
3. Foam board
1. Poke some small holes in the foam board, insert the cuttings you want to propagate through the holes into the foam board, with the lower ends of the cuttings passing through the foam board and sticking out.
2. Put the foam board into a container filled with water, and the foam board will float on the water surface.
3. You can pick up the foam board at any time to check. Once roots have formed, break the foam board apart, take out the cuttings and pot them up.
The above are three methods to make cuttings root quickly. If you find them useful, you can try them yourself!
