Spring is a great season for repotting, but recently Huahua heard that many flower lovers' plants look listless right after repotting, or even die. Today Huahua has summed up a few key points to note when repotting. Follow what Huahua does, and your repotted plants will perk up very soon!

When to repot

The best time to repot is to choose the plant's

dormant period or early growth period

. Repotting at this time causes the least damage to the potted plant, and the potted plant recovers quickly. If your plant is about to die, then don't worry about the timing of repotting!

Most potted plants can be repotted in

spring and autumn

, as long as the temperature is 15-20°C.

Note:

The plant's

growth period, seedling recovery period and flowering period

are all

not suitable for repotting

!

1. Removing from the pot:

Before removing the plant from the pot, first control the watering. Do not water for 3-5 days before removing it from the pot; when the potting soil is half-dry, it is easy to remove.

Note

the root system

must

keep some soil

. You can properly prune the roots and appropriately remove some of the old potting soil, but the soil in the middle of the root system must not be disturbed!

2. Pruning the roots

Use scissors to cut off rotten roots and old roots, and if there are withered leaves, cut them off as well.

Apply carbendazim powder to the cuts for sterilization and disinfection.

3. Preparing new potting soil

1. If the repotted plant has already reached its final form, you can use a flower pot of the same size for repotting. If the repotted plant is still growing, use a pot one size larger.

2. Prepare new soil; you can mix it yourself or buy it directly. If you want to use

old soil

, note that it should first be exposed to the sun,

sterilized and disinfected

。

3. Before adding soil, it is best to place some

broken tile pieces

or

expanded clay pebbles

at the bottom of the pot to increase the soil's aeration, and add a small amount of base fertilizer, such as

disinfected

chicken manure or cake fertilizer

, to increase soil fertility.

4. Putting into the new pot

Hold the plant upright and place it into the new pot, sprinkling in new soil while gently shaking the plant.

After replacing with new soil, water once with

settling water

, that is, water thoroughly until water flows out from the bottom of the pot.

Notes after repotting

After repotting, first place the plant in a cool place for a period of care. After about 1 week, move it to a bright, well-ventilated place and care for it normally.

After repotting,

do not fertilize for 3 months

。

Clivia, orchids and the like are usually repotted once every 2-3 years, while plants with fast-growing roots like spider plants are best repotted once a year.
